His appointment marks a strategic new chapter for the Coal India subsidiary as it seeks to strengthen its financial management. In his new role, Singh is expected to guide MCL toward enhanced operational efficiency, robust financial governance, and overall excellence across its operations.

CIL’s CSR activities also support major national priorities. The company was the largest CPSE contributor to the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, constructing over 50,000 toilets in government schools, and contributed to PM-CARES and COVID-19 relief efforts. Its initiatives included dedicated hospitals in Odisha and Chhattisgarh and oxygen plants under Mission Praana Vayu.

In health and education, CIL’s flagship programmes have delivered substantial benefits. NIRMAN has supported over 1,300 UPSC aspirants, while the Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana has enabled more than 1,000 bone marrow transplants. Under Nanha Sa Dil, over two lakh children were screened and more than 1,700 treated for congenital heart disease. CIL has also established major healthcare and education infrastructure, including a 500-bed medical college and hospital at Angul, a cardiac care centre at Jharsuguda, smart classrooms and ICT/STEM labs.

Beyond health and education, CIL’s CSR programmes promote skilling, livelihoods, sports and community development, benefiting over 48,000 people in the past four financial years. The Khelgaon Sports Academy has produced over 1,800 medals, including 15 international medals. Overall, CIL estimates that its CSR initiatives have touched 3.56 crore lives, with significant benefits for SC/ST communities, women and persons with disabilities, while contributing to SDGs related to health, education, gender equality, sanitation and poverty alleviation.

To enhance resource discovery, CIL is pairing traditional core drilling with non-invasive 2D and 3D seismic surveys, effectively cutting required boreholes by up to 50 percent. Concurrently, machine learning models such as Support Vector Machines and Random Forest are interpreting coal seams from geophysical logs, while CIL’s exploration wing, Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI), is deploying remote sensing, GIS, LiDAR, drones, and bathymetric surveys for complete lifecycle mine mapping.

The collaboration will initially assess the project’s technical and commercial feasibility, implementation modalities and potential applications of syn-gas. CIL is considering establishing the gasification facility adjacent to or at the Paradip plant. The companies will also prepare a Preliminary Feasibility Report. Details regarding project capacity, investment, technology, coal source, timeline and equity structure have not yet been disclosed.

Marking Coal India’s “Year of Reform and Transform,” Shri Dutt also launched several digital portals and dashboards focused on employee welfare and customer-centric services, including the CIL MedEX Portal, CIL Swasth Portal, Third-Party Sampling Agreement Portal, Landed Price Dashboard and Consumer Portal.

Commending the achievement, CMD Harish Duhan stated that the award reflects SECL’s balanced commitment to both environmental conservation and national energy security. He emphasized that while SECL continues to adopt safe, technology-driven, and eco-friendly mining methods, it remains dedicated to fulfilling India’s growing energy requirements through efficient operations.
