Eastern Coalfields Limited Holds 51st Annual General Meeting

Sanctoria, 12th August, 2026: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited and a leading coal producer in the country, convened its 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 12th August, 2026 at its Headquarters in Sanctoria. The meeting was held in hybrid mode, allowing participation both in person and through virtual platforms, ensuring broad-based engagement.

The meeting was also attended by all Heads of Departments at ECL Headquarters and Area General Managers, reflecting a unified and committed leadership presence.

In his address to the shareholders and stakeholders, Shri Satish Jha, CMD, ECL, reflected on the performance of the Company for the financial year 2025–26. He stated:

“F.Y. 2025–26 has been a landmark year for Eastern Coalfields Limited. It stands out not only for our highest-ever coal production but also for the significant qualitative improvements made in our operations, sustainability practices and governance frameworks.”

Chairman, CIL acknowledged the performance of the company for F.Y. 2025-26. He further stressed upon the need of increasing the revenue sharing model of mines. Chairman also emphasized upon assuring good quality of coal and sustainable development initiatives.

Key highlights of the AGM included the presentation and adoption of the Audited Financial Statements for the year ended 31st March, 2026, along with the Directors’ Report and discussion on the future roadmap of the company.

The Company reiterated its unwavering commitment to safety, sustainability, digital innovation and nation-building by ensuring a reliable coal supply for the country’s energy needs.

SECL Honored with Green Transition Leadership Award 2026

BILASPUR. South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has been conferred the ‘Green Transition Leadership Award’ at The Times Internet Ecopreneurs Awards 2026. CMD Shri Harish Duhan accepted the award in New Delhi yesterday, recognizing SECL’s commitment to sustainable mining, land reclamation, scientific mine closure, and green energy initiatives.

Alongside this honor, SECL became the first Coal India subsidiary to cross 50 Million Tonnes of coal production in FY 2026-27, registering a 9.5% year-on-year growth.

The achievement was anchored by its key Korba mega projects: Dipka (11.8 MT), Gevra (11.7 MT), and Kusmunda (9.7 MT).

CMD Shri Harish Duhan emphasized that balancing environmental conservation with energy security remains core to SECL’s growth strategy.

Bilaspur. South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) achieved a major milestone as ‘SECL Ke Sushrut’ became the first Coal PSU CSR initiative to be notified in the Gazette of India by the Ministry of Coal.

The flagship program provides medical entrance coaching to talented students in SECL’s operational areas, yielding outstanding results. In its inaugural batch (2023–24), 39 out of 40 students qualified for NEET, followed by 31 out of 40 students in the second batch (2024–25). This official recognition highlights SECL’s enduring commitment to empowering regional youth through quality education.

Shri Biranchi Das Given Additional Charge as Director (HR) of MCL

Shri Biranchi Das, Director (Human Resources) of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), has been entrusted with the additional charge of Director (Human Resources) at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. The additional responsibility will take effect from July 1, 2026, and will remain in force for six months or until the appointment of a regular Director (HR) at MCL, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Biranchi Das, who assumed charge as Director (HR) at SECL on March 20, 2024, brings nearly three decades of experience in human resource management, with expertise in industrial relations, employee welfare and corporate social responsibility, and has led several impactful HR initiatives during his tenure at SECL.

Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 Launched at SECL Headquarters

BILASPUR. The Government of India’s Swachhata Pakhwada was officially inaugurated at the SECL Headquarters with a pledge-taking ceremony. SECL CMD Shri Harish Duhan administered the Swachhata Pledge to a gathering of senior directors, department heads, officers, employees, and labor union representatives. In his address, Shri Duhan emphasized that cleanliness is a vital part of both institutional culture and social responsibility, stressing that the vision of a Swachh Bharat can only be realized through active public participation. Running until June 30, the fortnight-long campaign will feature extensive cleanliness drives, public awareness programs, and various participatory activities across all SECL units and establishments to promote hygiene practices and community involvement.

With over 35 years of rich experience in the coal sector, he has held several key positions at Coal India Limited and Northern Coalfields Limited, including serving as Officer on Special Duty to the CMD of CMPDI. A B.Tech in Mining Engineering from IIT (BHU), Varanasi, Shri Singh began his career at NCL in 1990 and is widely recognised for his expertise in opencast mine planning, project and corporate planning, enterprise risk management, and strategic execution, having led major initiatives such as the Singrauli Coalfield Master Plan, contributed to surpassing 100 MTPA coal production at NCL, and played a significant role in shaping CIL Vision 2047 and the Long Term Plan 2035.
