A veteran with over 35 years of sector expertise, Shri Bhargava’s monumental contribution lies in architecting India’s clean energy landscape. As the founding CEO of NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and Executive Director (RE) at NTPC, he spearheaded an unprecedented transition—astronomically scaling NTPC’s renewable energy pipeline from a modest 1 GW to over 25 GW within just 55 months.

Further cementing his leadership, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently nominated him as a Green Hydrogen Expert to the National Green Hydrogen Mission’s Empowered Group. His deep operational experience with utility-scale frameworks makes him uniquely suited to drive global climate policy integration from the ground up.

NITI Aayog Releases 11 Reports on Pathways to Viksit Bharat and Net Zero

NEW DELHI. NITI Aayog has released a series of 11 study reports on “Scenarios towards Viksit Bharat and Net Zero” over February 9–10 at the Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, in the presence of senior officials from NITI Aayog, the agriculture sector and State Governments, followed by a panel discussion on “Climate Transition and Social Implications Across Sectors.” Three reports were unveiled on Day 1, four during the first session of Day 2, and the final four on the afternoon of February 10 in the presence of Dr. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog; B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog; Dr. Mangi Lal Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director General, ICAR, along with a virtual address by Dr. V.K. Paul, Member, NITI Aayog. The concluding set of reports covering Buildings, Agriculture, Waste and Social Implications underscores that India’s journey to Net Zero must be people-centric, balancing climate goals with economic growth and livelihood protection. The Buildings report highlights that over 80 percent of the floor space projected for 2070 is yet to be built, making early interventions in design and materials crucial to avoid future energy inefficiencies and heat stress; the Agriculture report advocates a carefully sequenced transition beginning with resource efficiency to safeguard farmers’ incomes; the Waste report outlines a roadmap for emission reduction through circular economy measures including universal waste collection and waste-to-Bio-CNG conversion; while the Social Implications report examines impacts on land use, jobs and health, stressing the importance of a just and equitable transition.
