<p><strong>Bangalore, December 08, 2025:</strong> Greenwood High International School, Bengaluru, proudly hosted the 69th National School Games Under-19 Boys and Girls Chess Championship, organised by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi, under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). A total of 32 units (64 teams of boys &amp; girls), with over 300 students from across the country, participated in the event, representing State and Union Territory Directorates of Education as well as major national school boards, including the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) and International Board School Sports Organization (IBSSO.)</p>

<p>The team championship followed the Swiss League format, with all teams competing across six rounds. In the <strong>Under-19</strong> <strong>Boys’ section, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)</strong> emerged as the Champion with<strong> 10 match points</strong>, securing the top position after a tie-break. Maharashtra claimed the 1<strong>st Runner-up title </strong>with <strong>10 match points,</strong> while <strong>Tamil Nadu finished as the 2nd Runner-up with 9 match points.</strong></p>
<p><strong>In the Under-19 Girls’ section, Maharashtra</strong> emerged as the winner, <strong>scoring 12 match points</strong>. <strong>CBSE </strong>followed <strong>as 1st Runner-up</strong> <strong>with 10 match points</strong>, while the <strong>Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) scored 9 match points to claim the 2nd Runner-up title.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Niru Agarwal, Managing Trustee, Greenwood High International School, said, </strong>“We are pleased to host this championship and provide a platform for young players to showcase their abilities. Events like these highlight the importance of sports in students’ overall growth, and we remain committed to supporting opportunities that encourage learning, discipline, and development.”</p>
<p>The championship witnessed strong participation from highly accomplished titled players across both categories. <strong>Of the 155 boys competing, an impressive 114 were FIDE-rated players, and out of the 157 female registrants, 81 were FIDE-rated players, reflecting the high calibre and competitive strength of the field.</strong></p>
<p>In the Boys’ division, International Master Daaevik Wadhawan (FIDE Rating 2409) and International Master Sahib Singh (2376), both from Delhi, along with FIDE Master Gaurang Pankaj Bagwe (2308) from Maharashtra and FIDE Master Swarna Nihal (2243), were the prominent title players.</p>
<p>In the Girls’ category, Women FIDE Master Amulya Guruprasad (2113) and Women Candidate Master R. Kashthuri Bhai (1887), both representing CBSE, were the title players.</p>
<p>The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Grandmaster Mr. Tej Kumar – India’s 50th and Karnataka’s 1st Grandmaster The event was also attended Mr. Arnav Kumar Shaw – Manager, CISCE Sports &amp; Games, and Ms. Tripti Agrawal – Field Officer, SGFI, alongside representatives from Greenwood High International School. The championship concluded with outstanding displays of strategy and sportsmanship, reflecting a continued commitment to nurturing talent across academics, sports, and co-curricular pursuits.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Rourkela Zone emerged as winners in the Under – 14 and Under – 19 category of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) Regional Hockey Tournament hosted by Ispat English Medium School, Sector – 20 at Biju Pattanaik Hockey Stadium on 12<sup>th</sup> July. Mr. B K Jojo, GM In-charge (Town Engineering) was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session and declared the tournament open. Mr. A K Sabat , GM (Education) was the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests included Father Joseph of St. Paul&#8217;s School and Sister Jayselia of Carmel School, Jalda,</p>
<p>Speaking on the occasion Mr. Jojo encouraged the players to practise teamwork and  discipline in their pursuit for excellence. Mr.  Sabat encouraged the students to play the games in true sportsman spirit.</p>
<p>There were 138  participants  from 4 Zones namely Balasore,  Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Bhubaneswar tok part in the event  There were 3 teams in each of the under-14, under-17 and  under-19  category in the tournament.</p>
<p>Mr.  Raju Saini, Mr.  Sunil Tirkey, Mr. Sanjeeb Khalko, Mr Bernath Lakra , Mr.  Pitor Tirkey and Mr.  J Mohanta of RSP Sports Department conducted the tournament.</p>
<p>Mr. T G. Kanekar, GM In-charge (Town Services) was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony and handed over the prizes and medals to the winning and runner-up teams along with Mr. A K Sabat.</p>
<p>In the under-14 category, Rourkela Zone emerged victorious, with Jharsuguda Zone as runners-up. Bhubaneswar Zone claimed the top spot in the under-17 category, while Rourkela Zone finished as runners-up. Rourkela Zone also triumphed in the under-19 category, with Balasore Zone as the runners-up.</p>
<p>Dr. Sushreeta Das, Principal, (IEMS) delivered the welcome address in both the inaugural and closing ceremonies. The opening ceremony was anchored by Mranish Badaik, while Mrs. Pratima Sahoo was the master of ceremony of the oncluding ceremony.</p>
