Bengaluru, 12 February 2025: Ambuja Cements, the cement and building material company of the diversified Adani Portfolio, is transforming rural education in Chandrapur, Maharashtra through its innovative CSR programmes in physical literacy and sports promotion. Fourteen students from Ambuja-supported ZP Upper Primary School, Upparwahi, Chandrapur, participated in the 2024 International Karate Championships in Hyderabad, winning one Gold, five Silver, and seven Bronze medals.

Similarly, Anushka Mandavkar, a seventh grader from Nadgaon School, has progressed to become a state-level 800m runner under the Khelo India initiative. She recently secured 2^nd position in 300m running at an event in Nagpur. Since 2018, the initiative has empowered thousands of students, enhancing physical fitness, building sports skills, and inspiring participation in national and international competitions.

The programme started as a pilot in 10 schools in Darlaghat, Himachal Pradesh, and later expanded to include 15 schools in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. It focuses on developing core physical competencies like endurance, agility, strength, and speed. Due to Ambuja Cements’ efforts, a 2023 assessment by ELMS Sports Foundation reported a 73-74% improvement in students’ physical fitness in addition to creating inspiring success stories.

Ambuja Cements is championing holistic development in underserved communities by collaborating with sports organisations, local authorities, and schools. The initiative also boosts school attendance, enhances discipline, and promotes inclusivity, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to unlock their full potential.

Bengaluru, 23 September 2024: Ambuja Cements, the cement and building material company of the diversified Adani Portfolio, is committed to nurturing sporting talent across the nation, through initiatives such as the After School Programme. This commitment is yielding impressive results with 7 students from Ambuja Cements-supported schools in Chandrapur qualifying for the upcoming state-level athletics competition in Pune. They were a part of a contingent of 17 student athletes, who participated in the district-level athletics competition in various events including shot putt, high jump, long jump, and javelin throw.

In all, these student athletes representing Ambuja Cements-supported schools from core villages of Chandrapur, secured 12 top positions, with them even clinching top two spots in some events. This achievement reflects the dedication and hard work of the students, who have been diligently training under Ambuja Cements’ After School Programme. The programme aims to nurture the future athletic talent of the nation. It encourages the children through various means, and supports them to compete in district, block and state-level sports competitions.

The After School Programme also helps students participating in sports including kabaddi, kho-kho, and badminton. Notably, several students from supported schools have also been selected for Khelo India events. In addition to these developments, schools in Chandrapur as well as Ambujanagar have introduced self-defence training for all children, with a focus on the safety of girls.

Ambuja Cements has also broadened its sports promotion initiative by launching the After School Programme in Chandrapur, Darlaghat, and Bathinda. This programme aims to identify and nurture budding talent by offering specialised sports training and support, focusing on student athletes with promising potential in sports. The striped animal, suspected to have received spinal injuries after jumping 35 feet off the bridge, was on Wednesday found stranded between the rocks in Sirna river near Kunada village, located around 27 km from here, he said.

Efforts were made to rescue the feline, but it failed to enter the cage that was placed close by, he said.

The tiger also received injuries to its teeth when it tried to pull the cage, he said.

“The big cat was found dead in the river on Thursday morning,” Chief Conservator of Forest, Chandrapur circle, S V Ramarao said.

On Wednesday, the tiger killed a wild animal and rested for a while on the bridge before jumping into the river and apparently got injured, an official earlier said.

On getting information, forest officials reached the spot and launched a rescue operation but it was called off on Wednesday night due to poor light.

Some forest personnel were deployed to keep a watch on the tiger’s movements during the night, the official said.

“However, the animal showed no signs of movement on Thursday morning,” Ramarao said.

The carcass was later fished out from the water, he said, adding that the exact cause of the death will be known after the autopsy.
