This year, National science Day was perfectly in sync with the20 Presidency event being celebrated at every corner of the states.  The theme for National Science Day 2023 was ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’.

The Hon’ble Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Science and Technology and Minister of state (Independent Charge) Ministry of Earth Sciences and Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office; Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space embraced the event.

Addressing at the event Dr Jitendra Singh emphasized on the theme Global Science for Global Well-being and highlighted India’s emerging global role and rising visibility in the international arena.

With the vision of creating a research ecosystem and need for capacity building in the development of India’s Higher Education system, the Minister unveiled the Vaibhav Fellowship. Speaking at the event, the minister stated that the Vaibhav Fellowship is designed to improve the research ecosystem of India’s higher education institutions by promoting academic and research partnerships between Indian institutions and the best institutions worldwide through the mobility of faculty and researchers from abroad to India. The Minister also appealed to the young researchers to lead the world with their innovations.

The Hon’ble Minister also added that out of 130 countries, we were at number 81 in the Global Innovation Index till 2015, but we have jumped to 40th position in 2022. “Today India is among the top three countries in the world in terms of PhDs and among the top three countries in the world in terms of start-up ecosystem.

He further mentioned that there has been a significant rise in the country’s overall performance in terms of a number of publications (globally ranked 3rd now from 6th in 2013 based on National Science Foundation database), patents (globally ranked 9th in terms of resident patent filing) and quality of research publications (globally ranked 9th now from 13th in 2013) during the last 9 years. 

Appealing from the podium of National Science Day event “Dr Jitendra Singh asked the young scholars, young innovators, young talents of India to lead the world with their innovations. The Minister awarded the various scholars and science journalist and scientists for their remarkable contribution in their respective field. 

“India’s Scientific Prowess will define and determine India’s Future Economy in the Amrit Kaal of next 25 years,” he concluded.

As we know India made noteworthy strides to the science and technology and the Indian Scientists have made remarkable contribution over the years.

Science is the powerful tool that can transform the world and improve people’s life. It is crucial that Science can address the global challenges like poverty, hunger, climate action health and well-being, and thus we need to harness Science and Technology innovations to work together for a healthier, brighter & prosperous future generation, added Prof Ajay K Sood.

During the event, Prof Sood mentioned that “We are committed to work together with G20 members to drive scientific temper leadership for the betterment of our lives and nations altogether. We know Science, Technology, innovation and Education are the four pillars on which nation stands and holds equal strength for the overall development of the people.

Indian National Academy of Engineering Report of Committee on Technological Preparedness for Dealing with National Disruptions was released during NationalScienceDay2023 at Vigyan Bhawan in the auspicious presence of Dr Jitendra Singh and other dignitaries.  The Hon’ble Minister along with other dignitaries also released the AWSAR Compendium published by Vigyan Prasar.

The event was graced by the Prof K Raghavan, Secretary of Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr M Ravichandran, Secretary of Department of Science and Technology, Dr S Chandrashekar and others Scientific fraternity.

Based on intelligence which was analyzed & acted upon by the Gurugram Zonal Unit, it emerged that a merchant, who is an importer and wholesale trader of dry fruits has availed IGST Input Tax Credit on imports, but has further issued duty paid invoices to various non-existent firms, whereas the goods (dry fruits) were sold in the open market to various retailers. Quiet a few of the firms, to whom invoices were issued were found to be non-existent / fake (registered on GST portal under different HSN), who further issued goodless invoices to fraudulently pass on ITC without supply of any goods.  The merchant has rendered itself to liable under Section 122 (i) (ii) of the CGST Act, 2017, etc., as a Consequence of which the merchant has deposited Rs. 5 crore till date, additional recovery in this matter is expected.

In all, 10 such fake firms busted so far in the investigation, have fraudulently availed & passed on Input Tax Credit (ITC) in excess of Rs. 160 crore, bases on inwards from the merchant, and from other fake/cancelled sources, which is under further investigation. Controller of one such firm to whom duty paid invoices were issued without supply of actual goods by the merchant, prima facie passed on fraudulent ITC of Rs. 26.3 crore, was identified as Sh. Pawan Kumar Sharma. It emerged through investigation that Sh. Pawan Kumar Sharma is also proprietor of another firm M/s Pawan Traders also involved in passing on fraudulent Input Tax Credit (ITC).

Accordingly, Shri Pawan Kumar Sharma was arrested on 13.05.2022 under the provisions of Section 69 of CGST Act, 2017 read with clause (b) (c) of subsection (1) of section 132 of CGST Act, 2017 and produced before CMM, Patiala House Court on 13.05.2022, who ordered judicial custody for 14 days.

Further investigations in the matter is under progress.

LIC IPO GMP Today

The unlisted shares of the LIC IPO nosedived in the negative zone in the grey market a few days back, and there has been no coming back from that yet. LIC IPO GMP (grey market premium) is still negative, according to market observers. The GMP is minus Rs 20, according to them, which is Rs 5 higher than yesterday’s grey market premium. Market observers maintained that LIC IPO GMP has remained in the negative zone for the fourth successive day, which is a bad sign for the listing of India’s largest public issue

LIC is the largest insurance provider company in India. It has a market share of above 66.2% in new business premium. The company offers participating insurance products and non-participating products like unit-linked insurance products, saving insurance products, term insurance products, health insurance, and annuity & pension products.

As of 30 Sep 2021, it has a total AUM of Rs. 39 lakh crore. LIC operates through 2048 branches, 113 divisional offices, and 1,554 Satellite Offices. It operates globally in Fiji, Mauritius, Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Kingdom.

At 09:16 AM, Nifty was down 169 points (1.05%) to trade at 15997 while Sensex was down 589 points (1.09%) to trade at 53499. The indices weakened further as the Nifty was down by more than 250 points at 9:30 AM and briefly slipped below 15,900. Sensex declined over 850 points to trade below 53,200.

From the Sensex firms, UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, M&M, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv and Larsen & Toubro were among the major laggards. In contrast, Power Grid emerged as the only gainer.

Meanwhile, Rupee declined 30 paise to 77.55 against US dollar in early trade, according to news agency . Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures declined 1.11 per cent to USD 106.32 per barrel.

A lacklustre trend in the domestic equity markets and a firm American currency weighed on investor sentiment. Besides, persistent foreign fund outflows and elevated crude oil prices impacted the domestic unit.

In the previous trade, the BSE Sensex ended at 54,088.39, lower by 276.46 points or 0.51 per cent. The NSE Nifty dipped 72.95 points or 0.45 per cent to settle at 16,167.10. Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 3,609.35 crore, as per stock exchange data.

Speaking on the occasion he said road transport in the city is important in the development of tourist centers in Aurangabad district, which is a major tourist destination of the state. The Minister said the construction of these national highway projects will accelerate the development of Aurangabad district along with transportation. Improving traffic in the city will help reduce the number of accidents and environmental pollution. The rural areas of the district will be easily accessible to the city, he added.

Shri Gadkari said efforts have been made to alleviate the water crisis through road projects in the water-starved Aurangabad district. He said in the construction of roads, many ponds have been constructed on the lines of Buldhana pattern and the soil and stones have been used for the construction of roads.

He said through this, the soil extracted from the ponds created in Adgaon-Gandheli, Valmi and Nakshatrawadi areas, Teesgaon and Sajapur village areas has got double benefit. Deepening has made it possible to create ponds in each area. Shri Gadkari said his will help in reducing the water crisis by increasing the ground water level. The construction of such ponds in the district has increased the water capacity to 14 lakh cubic meters till date, he added.

So far, 205.6 kg of heroin, valued at Rs. 1439 crores in illicit market, has been recovered. The detailed examination of the consignment is still undergoing at the port.

During investigation, the importer was not found at the registered address in Uttarakhand. Accordingly, a manhunt was launched across the country to nab the importer. DRI conducted searches at various locations across India to locate the importer. The importer was changing locations and hiding to evade identification. However, persistent and vigorous efforts yielded results and the importer was located in a small village in Punjab. The importer tried to resist and flee, but he was nabbed by the DRI officers.

On the basis of enquiry done so far, DRI has arrested the said importer under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985 and he has been produced before the Hon’ble Court of Special Duty Magistrate, Amritsar on 24.04.2022. The Court has granted transit remand to enable the DRI officers to produce the importer before the jurisdictional Court at Bhuj.

Further investigation in the case is under progress.

Mumbai: Passport applicants in the Andheri neigh bourhood, as is typical, must wait in massive queues and endure unnecessary delays when having their passports validated at the Andheri Police Station. The police officers were having problems handling the crowd as well, and there was no mechanism to handle the crowd of applicants until today.

This became a matter of concern, and an Andheri resident and CEO of a bootstrapped start-up Promodome Digital, Vivek Kataruka , couldn’t stand the predicament of passport applicants and police officers from these police stations, who had to go through a gruelling process merely to get their passports verified. Twice Kataruka had to wait for a longer time to get his passport verified in one of the Andheri Police stations, felt compelled to do something useful to help the police and the applicants save time, money, and make this experience more convenient for the majority of them. He came up with the brilliant idea of installing a Token ticket vending machine, which he felt would be the greatest solution for everyone. Four token vending machines have been installed in each of the police stations in Andheri east.

The ease and speed with which the police verification protocol may be completed would be a huge help to everyone. It would primarily serve as a time saver and a de-escalation of stress, which everyone experiences while functioning at a police station. Vivek Kataruka, CEO and Founder of Promodome, added to the excitement and satisfaction of being a part of this support for this cause and happy that this inspiration and guided effort is seeing the light of day, expressed “Being an entrepreneur, you instinctively become a problem solver. To begin with, the four police stations namely Andheri Police station, MIDC Police station, Powai Police station and Sakinaka Police station that come under zone 10 have been installed with the ticket vending token machine by Promodome Digital. As they develop financial strength, the Promodome team is sure that they will reach out to more police stations in the coming days to install more of these ticket vending machines. Kataruka added when asked about his aspirations. “The ticket vending machines will help the police officers better manage the applicants and save a chunk of their time and energy. It’s a novel initiative that will increase the efficiency of police stations and share the load of policemen managing the station.”
