The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Government of India, has announced a significant opportunity for 500 students from partner institutions to participate in internships focusing on standardization. This initiative was unveiled during the Annual Convention of BIS Standardisation Chairs and Nodal Faculty from MoU Partner Institutions. The internships are open to students in 4-year degree programs, 5-year integrated courses, postgraduate degrees, and diploma programs, and will span eight weeks. Interns will engage in pre-standardization work in key industries, conduct compliance surveys in collaboration with BIS offices, and visit large-scale units, MSMEs, and laboratories to study various aspects of product quality and conformity assessment.

The BIS-Academia collaboration has already made notable strides, including the integration of standardization modules into the curricula of 15 institutes, commissioning over 130 research projects, and establishing BIS Corners and Academic Dashboards in more than 50 institutions. During the convention, participants discussed best practices for academic collaboration and the potential of Standards Clubs to engage students. The event concluded with a shared commitment to enhancing the culture of standardization in Indian academia, equipping students and faculty to actively contribute to both national and global quality systems. Notably, five institutions were recognized for their outstanding contributions to BIS-related activities.
