Bengaluru, 13 August 2025: The just-concluded Swagtantra Sale on Snapdeal lit up shopping carts across Bharat, bringing the joy and anticipation of the festive season to life. The number of units sold jumped more than 100% over last year’s sale during the same festive period, a reflection of how value, variety, and trust continue to resonate with millions of Indian households.

This year’s sale was a celebration of everyday fashion and festive essentials. The fashion category recorded a steep rise in demand with the sales units more than tripling during the Swagtantra sale which ran from 6th to 11th August. Staples of festive gifting – dry fruits quadrupled. Even rainy wear saw a more than 450% jump, a nod to the ongoing monsoon season.

Shoppers from non-metro cities formed the heart of the celebrations, contributing to 83% of festive season sales. States like Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Maharashtra emerged as this year’s star performers.

The Swagtantra Sale was also a festival for sellers. Surat emerged as the biggest seller hub with a 176% increase in active sellers, followed by New Delhi. Other cities such as Noida, Jaipur, Ludhiana, Kanpur, Jodhpur, and Rajkot also saw thriving seller communities. Long-time partners who joined in 2017 or earlier contributed 20% of total sales, while sellers who came on board in 2024 and 2025 contributed 32%, both groups showing robust growth.

Presiding the meeting, Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, MoHUA said, “The progress made in PMAY(U) is significant. I urge States to work towards achieving the target of constructing 60 Lakh houses and grounding of 80 Lakh by the end of 2020.” Further, he also called for effective implementation of ARHCs by States/UTs. “ARHC is a transformative scheme. It will improve the quality of life of beneficiaries,” he said.
This was the first CSMC meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic. This reflects the importance the Government has attached to the objective of providing pucca houses to all eligible beneficiaries of Urban India by 2022 with the vision of ‘Housing for All’. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has laid renewed emphasis to accelerate housing construction and completion across the country within stipulated time under PMAY(U).

The states also put in their proposals for revision of projects due to various issues such as, of land, topographical hazards, inter-city migration, change of preferences of verticals, loss of lives etc.

With this, as on date, the total number of sanctioned houses under PMAY(U) is now 1.07 Crores as against the validated demand of 1.12 Crore.

About 67 Lakh houses are grounded for construction and more than 35 Lakh have been completed and occupied. Total investment under the Mission is Rs 6.32 Lakh Crore which has Central assistance of Rs 1.68 Lakh Crore of which Rs 72646 Crore of funds have been released.

The Meeting evinced tremendous response from the States/UTs on Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs), a sub-scheme under PMAY (U) for Urban Migrants/Poor. The States/UTs were further familiarized with the Scheme and requested to take appropriate measures for its effective implementation. ARHCs are a major step towards fulfilling the goal of ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat’.

 Katrina is currently basking in the success of Bharat, which collected Rs 211 crore at the domestic box office. She will now be seen opposite Akshay Kumar in Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi.

Arjun Kapoor is working on Ashutosh Gowariker’s period drama Panipat. He will be seen as Sadashiv Rao Bhau in the film. He also has a romantic comedy titled Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar with Parineeti Chopra in his kitty.
