L&T forms Strategic Partnership with BEL for India’s 5th-Generation Fighter Aircraft Programme

Bengaluru, September 24, 2025: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has formed a strategic partnership with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to support Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme of the Indian Air Force. The consortium will participate in the Expression of Interest notice issued by Government of India’s (GoI) Aeronautical Development Agency, by way of submitting a response in the coming weeks.

The partnership will leverage L&T’s expertise in developing strategic defence and aerospace platforms, along with BEL’s experience in defence electronics and systems, to jointly contribute to India’s 5^th-generation fighter aircraft.

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in advancing India’s defence capabilities in line with GoI’s vision for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. By combining the strengths of the two leading defence technology providers, the partnership seeks to deliver a cutting-edge, high- quality solution.

In the past, L&T and BEL have played pivotal role in India’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft programme by supplying major aero-structure modules and developing mission-critical avionics and electronic systems. Building on this legacy, the consortium will bring proven expertise and commitment to timely delivery of world-class defence and aerospace platforms for the Indian Air Force.

PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) today signed a tripartite MoU with joint stock company Rosoboronexport, Russia, and MSK Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd. for co-operation in the licensed production and supply of indigenised ammunition: 30 mm ammunition (HEI & HET), 40 mm ammunition (VOG-25) and 30 mm grenade ammunition (VOG-30 D).

The Govt of India has cleared the appointment of Shri Kaipa Venkata Suresh Kumar as Director (Marketing), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) till the date of his superannuation i.e.30.06.2026. Currently, he is serving as General Manager, BEL. .

Shri Kaipa Venkata Suresh Kumar takes over as Director (Marketing)BEL on June 16, 2023. Shri Suresh Kumar is a recipient of the prestigious Raksha Mantri’s Excellence Award. Under his able tutelage, many patents / copy rights have been created by his teams. ..

In an eventful career spanning 34 years at BEL, Shri Kumar has gained rich experience in diverse technology areas dealing with all major customer segments, and played a pivotal role in driving business development through R&D.

He has worked in all phases of product development life-cycle, including conceptualization, design, development, qualification, installation and commissioning, field trials and induction of systems. He has in-depth knowledge and understanding of the end user’s needs / requirements, and the means to meet them. He was instrumental in realising an above 90 Mn USD export order from Airbus for the supply of EW Suite, the single largest export order received by BEL. He also introduced new products and generated future business opportunities worth about Rs. 4,000 Cr.

Since 2021, he has been serving as the Chief Indigenisation Officer of BEL and has made significant contributions to the Government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’. BEL has saved more than Rs. 1,000 Cr FE in the last two years through indigenisation efforts. The company has also contributed over 100 products to the Positive Indigenisation lists promulgated by the Ministry of Defence,. A majority of these products are under development through the Make II route.
