DMRC Signs MoU to Develop Automated Cargo Evacuation System at Deendayal Port

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has expanded its consultancy portfolio by entering the port sector through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Umeandus Technology Private Limited, and BEML Limited for developing a Real Time Automated Cargo Evacuation System (e-FTS) at Kandla, Gujarat. The pilot project aims to revolutionize cargo handling through automation and smart technologies such as blockchain, AI, machine learning, and IoT, enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. As part of the MoU, DMRC will undertake the project’s operations and maintenance for 25 years, with detailed roles to be finalized in a forthcoming Definitive Agreement. The system also holds potential for adaptation at other ports and logistics hubs across the country.

Coal India Commissions India’s First Electric rope shovel at NCL Nigahi Project.

BEML Limited launched India’s largest indigenously designed electric rope shovel, the BRS21, for opencast mining. This 720-ton, zero-emission machine, with a 21-cubic-meter bucket, was handed over to Northern Coalfields Ltd. The development of BRS21 in 24 months signifies a step towards sustainable and self-reliant mining solutions, aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. BEML said the BRS21 rope shovel is entirely designed, engineered, and manufactured in India.According to BEML, the high-capacity electric rope shovel is purpose-built for large-scale overburden removal in opencast mining operations.

Apart from above , Coal India announced the commissioning of India’s first indigenously developed electric rope shovel at Nigahi Project of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh.

The handing-over and commissioning ceremony of this state-of-the-art shovel – manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) – witnessed the presence of Chairman, Shri P.M. Prasad; Director (HR), Dr. Vinay Ranjan; Director (Technical), Shri Achyut Ghatak; CMD, BEML, Shri Shantanu Roy; CMD, NCL, Shri B. Sairam; and senior management from Coal India, NCL, and BEML, both physically and virtually.

Chairman, Shri Prasad, described the induction of this shovel into Coal India’s HEMM fleet as a significant step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He also lauded the strong work culture at NCL and expressed confidence that the new machine would be utilized to its optimum capacity.

This 20-cubic-meter electric rope shovel features a robust high-tensile bucket and boom design, a fully air-conditioned ergonomic operator cabin, and an impressive annual production capacity of 4.45 million cubic meters. It is also equipped with real-time monitoring and diagnostics with integrated safety and fault protection systems.
