He highlighted the remarkable performance of the shipyard over the last year and its commitment towards self-reliance and Atmanirbharta. The CMD also spoke on measures taken by GRSE to maintain delivery schedules and bag more orders.  He highlighted efforts by GRSE to build more commercial vessels and extend its already proven expertise in green technology to larger platforms.

“With 42 vessels – including 12 warships for the Indian Navy, 13 export vessels & 17 domestic commercial vessels- under construction, every corner of our yards is abuzz with activity. Recently inaugurated, the Next Generation VR Lab facility marks a major step towards strengthening self-reliant, technology-driven warship design and production capabilities in the country. From advanced naval platforms to zero-emission and hybrid-propulsion vessels, GRSE is committed to delivering excellence while expanding its footprint across defence, research and commercial shipbuilding,” Cmde Hari added.

He also underscored GRSE’s efforts to be a part of the Government’s initiative to develop India into a major hub for shipbuilding and allied activities.

Prime Minister  inaugurated IMC 2025, highlighting India’s achievements in indigenous technology and the success of initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India. He urged global investors to explore opportunities in manufacturing, semiconductors, and digital startups, stating that “India is emerging as an effective platform for innovation and progress.”

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said India has transformed from a “technology taker” to the “digital flag bearer of the world.” He noted that mobile data costs have fallen by 98 percent, broadband users have grown from 60 million in 2014 to 944 million, and India now represents 20 percent of the global mobile population.

The event featured India’s first Satcom Summit, themed “Space Networks for Universal Connectivity,” which explored the role of satellite technology in bridging digital divides. Scindia described Satcom as a tool for inclusive growth, bringing education and healthcare to remote areas.

Parallel to IMC, the International Bharat6G Symposium 2025 saw global research alliances endorse principles for next-generation 6G networks that are secure, interoperable, and sustainable. Experts highlighted India’s 65 million 5G users and its readiness for 6G development.

Leading technology firms showcased innovations, including MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 chipset and Tejas Networks’ Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) technology. BSNL also announced the completion of its 5G pilot project.

Earlier this month, at Vedanta’s Annual General Meeting, Mr. Anil Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta Ltd. had said, “Demerger of our businesses will lead to the creation of 6 strong companies, each a Vedanta in its own right. This will unlock massive value. Each demerged entity will chart their own course but will follow Vedanta’s core values, its enterprising spirit and global leadership.”

Vedanta’s existing businesses will be structured in the following six independent companies after the demerger:

• Vedanta Aluminium
• Vedanta Oil & Gas
• Vedanta Power
• Vedanta Steel and Ferrous Materials
• Vedanta Base Metals
• Vedanta Limited

The demerger is planned to be a simple vertical split, for every 1 share of Vedanta Limited, the shareholders will additionally receive 1 share of each of the 5 newly listed companies.

Vedanta has a track record of giving strong returns to its shareholders. As on 30 June’24, Vedanta’s total shareholder return over 5-years stood at 276%, while the 5-years average accumulated dividend yield at 65%, delivering significant value for shareholders.

There has been an unprecedented growth of 332 per cent in the sale of indigenous Khadi products made by artisans from 2013-14 to 2022-25. Among the different KVI products, there has been unmatched growth in the production of Khadi fabrics in the last 9 years, in 2013-14, the production of Khadi clothes was Rs 811 crore, with a jump of 260 per cent, it has touched the figure of Rs 2,916 crore in 2022-23. The demand for Khadi clothes has also increased rapidly from 2013-14 to 2022-23. In 2013-14, where its sales were only Rs 1,081.04 crore, the statement added that by 2022-23, it increased by 450 per cent to touch the figure of Rs 5,942.93 crore.

Self-reliant India

Talking about the pre and post COVID worlds, Prime Minister observed that in order to fulfill the dream of making the 21st century India’s, the way forward is through ensuring that the country becomes self-reliant. Talking about turning a crisis into an opportunity, he gave the example of PPE kits N-95 masks, whose production in India has gone up from almost being negligible to 2 lakh each, on a daily basis.

Prime Minister remarked that the definition of self-reliance has undergone a change in the globalized world and clarified that when the country talks about self-reliance, it is different from being self-centered. He said that India’s culture considers the world as one family, and progress in India is part of, and also contributes to, progress in the whole world.  He noted that the world trusts that India has a lot to contribute towards the development of the entire humanity.

Five pillars of a self-reliant India

Recalling the devastation in Kutch after the earthquake, Prime Minister said that through determination and resolve, the area was back on its feet. A similar determination is needed to make the country self-reliant.

He said that a self-reliant India will stand on five pillars viz. Economy, which brings in quantum jump and not incremental change; Infrastructure, which should become the identity of India; System, based on 21st century technology driven arrangements; Vibrant Demography, which is our source of energy for a self-reliant India; and Demand, whereby the strength of our demand and supply chain should be utilized to full capacity.

He underlined the importance of strengthening all stakeholders in the supply chain to increase, as well as fulfill, the demand.

Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan

Prime Minister announced a special economic package and gave a clarion call for Atmanirbhar Bharat. He noted that this package, taken together with earlier announcements by the government during COVID crisis and decisions taken by RBI, is to the tune of Rs 20 lakh crore, which is equivalent to almost 10% of India’s GDP. He said that the package will provide a much needed boost towards achieving ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

Prime Minister observed that the package will also focus on land, labour, liquidity and laws. It will cater to various sections including cottage industry, MSMEs, labourers, middle class, industries, among others. He informed that the details of the contours of the package will be provided by the Finance Minister from tomorrow, in the coming few days.

Talking about the positive impact of reforms like JAM trinity and others, brought about in the last six years, Prime Minister said that several bold reforms are needed to make the country self-reliant, so that the impact of crisis such as COVID, can be negated in future. These reforms include supply chain reforms for agriculture, rational tax system, simple and clear laws, capable human resource and a strong financial system. These reforms will promote business, attract investment, and further strengthen Make in India.

Prime Minister remarked that self-reliance will prepare the country for tough competition in the global supply chain, and it is important that the country wins this competition. The same has been kept in mind while preparing the package. It will not only increase efficiency in various sectors but also ensure quality.

Highlighting their contribution to the country, Prime Minister said that the package will also focus on empowering the poor, labourers, migrants, etc., both from organized and unorganized sectors.

He observed that the crisis has taught us the importance of local manufacturing, local market and local supply chains. All our demands during the crisis were met ‘locally’. Now, its time to be vocal about the local products and help these local products become global, he said.
Living with COVID

Prime Minister noted that several experts and scientists have said that the virus is going to be part of our lives for a long time. But, it is also important to ensure that our life does-not revolve only around it. He exhorted people to work towards their targets while taking precautions like wearing masks and maintaining ‘do gaz doori’.

On the fourth stage of Lockdown, he said that its contours will be completely different from those seen yet.

On the basis of recommendations received from states, new rules will be framed, and information about the same will be conveyed before 18th May.
