Jitendra Awhad, who has now recovered from the infection after spending some days in hospital earlier this month, said he had to be kept on ventilator support for over two days.

“It was recklessness in my behaviour that was the cause of COVID, probably I did not take people’s advice seriously. That’s why I was caught in a trap, the NCP leader said on Wednesday while addressing an online seminar .

Notably, in the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak in the state, Jitendra Awhad, who is the guardian minister of Thane district, was seen moving around for relief work.

The minister said it was his will power that helped him overcome the tough phase, and added that he has recovered fast in the last two weeks.

Jitendra Awhad said he considers himself lucky to have recovered so fast, when compared with the travails of others like an IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre having to import medicines or undergo plasma therapy.
The minister said his hemoglobin level, which had dropped, has gone up and he is currently following a strict diet at specified timings.

Another state Cabinet minister ASHOK CHAVAN also tested positive for coronavirus recently. He said he is recovering and taking all precautions suggested by doctors .

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, said that resolutions against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act have been passed in States like Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal as they are ruled by one party, unlike Maharashtra.

“States like Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal have passed resolutions against Citizenship (Amendment) Act. They are ruled by one party, unlike Maharashtra. Our Chief Minister (Uddhav Thackeray) said there should be no problem for anyone in the State due to CAA and NRC. We are of this opinion,” Mr Pawar said

The West Bengal Assembly had on Monday passed a resolution against the Citizenship Act which was moved by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

Meanwhile , former chief minister and now pwd minister Ashok Chavan has said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi had sought a written undertaking from the Shiv Sena that the new government in Maharashtra would work within the ambit of the Constitution.

Sonia Gandhi had given clear guidelines that the state government must work within the frame of Constitution, the state PWD minister said at a meeting in Nanded.

“She told us that first, we should get this in writing (from Sena) that the government should work within the ambit of the Constitution and shouldn’t violate the Constitution preamble. We were told to convey this to Uddhav Thackeray,” Ashok Chavan said.

Uddhav Thackeray was sworn in CM in November last year, heading an alliance government with the Congress and NCP, after results of the October 21 Assembly elections failed to throw up a clear winner.

Ashok Chavan said Gandhi had also told state Congress leaders that if the government doesn’t function as expected, the party should quit it. “We conveyed the same to Uddhav Thackeray.

He agreed and we went to form the government,” Ashok Chavan said. Responding to Ashok Chavan’s remarks, former CM Devendra Fadnavis said Shiv Sena should clarify about the ”deals” done before the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was formed.

Meanwhile JNU alumnus Omar Khalid on Monday asked the Shiv Sena a direct question on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Civil Register (NRC). Omar said, ‘We are seeing a change in the attitude of Shiv Sena. If this change is real, it needs to be implemented. We have declared Satyagraha. She has to clear whether she joins us or stays apart. He was addressing a gathering in Mumbai

Congress leader Ashok Chavan said his party had conveyed its stand about portfolio allocation to the Maharashtra chief minister at the meeting attended by him, Maharashtra Congress chief Balasaheb Thorat, NCP’s Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and others.

The Congress, which has got 12 berths in the state government, wants two additional departments related to rural areas. “We gave our proposal to the CM. He will take a call,” Chavan

NCP chief Sharad Pawar said “The decision on portfolio allocation has been made. Who will get what, it has been decided. I think the chief minister will declare it on Friday,”

Four days after the expansion of the Maharashtra cabinet, the Thackeray government is reportedly struggling with the issue of portfolio allocation as squabbles within the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi haven’t yet been resolved. To make matters worse, internal dissent within the constituents of the MVA has exposed the fissures in the alliance.

A senior leader confirmed t that the infighting within the Congress party has led to the delay in the portfolio announcement. On Monday, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray inducted a total of 36 ministers in his one-month-old coalition government comprising the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress.

The Maharashtra Cabinet expansion has reportedly broken a rift between a faction of Congress over the allocation of portfolios in the Uddhav Thackeray-led government, with senior party leaders feeling that the loyalists are being ignored at the time when they deserve an opportunity.

Discontent between the Congress party has also surfaced between Maharashtra cabinet minister Ashok Chavan and Balasaheb Thorat with both senior leaders reportedly demanding the Revenue and PWD portfolio. Sources further informed that Nitin Raut and Vijay Wadettiwar have placed their demand for the PWD portfolio. Sources said party leader Rahul Gandhi also suggested that Cong should bet for agriculture or rural development department which is now with Ncp.

“The senior-most member of the Assembly should be made the Pro-tem Speaker as per the precedence,” said Mr Chavan and accused “The BJP is trying to gain more time from the Supreme Court. You can understand the motive behind this. They are trying to poach MLAs from other parties,” he added.

“There is no question of NCP and BJP coming together. Ajit Pawar is misleading the people. He has been removed from the leadership (Leader of Legislative party) of NCP by Sharad Pawar and Jayant Patil is the new leader of this party,” Mr Chavan told .

“They don’t have numbers now. NCP is with the Shiv Sena alliance. Hence Ajit Pawar will be the Deputy Chief Minister of the state only for a few days,” added Mr Chavan.

Accusing Ajit Pawar of misleading people, Mr Chavan said: “Ajit Pawar is making statements (tweets) to mislead the people. They (MLAs) are safe at one places. It is better to have them all at one place, have better communication for the meeting. BJP is trying to break them. Hence our MLAs have said that they will be together at one place.”

Earlier today, Mr Chavan accused NCP leader Ajit Pawar of betraying his party’s MLAs by ”misusing” their letter of support.

“Many MLAs who were led astray have come back. The rest of them will also come back soon. Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress has the number. Our all 44 MLAs are safe at the right place. We need not worry about anything,” said Mr Chavan.
