Smog tower’ in Connaught Place

Delhi government has decided to set-up a ₹20-crore ‘smog tower’ in Connaught Place.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said the tower will come up in 10 months. This tower will suck the air from the top and release filtered air near the ground.

This tower will be in addition to the Central government’s smog tower coming up in Anand Vihar.

Delhi government is also setting up a panel of national-level transplantation agencies whose services can be availed for relocation of trees. Local committees with RWA members and residents will monitor transplanted trees, Kejriwal said.

Under the tree transplantation policy, agencies concerned will have to transplant 80 per cent of the trees affected by their projects to a new location, he said.

Kejriwal said that a dedicated tree transplantation cell would be set up by the government under the new policy.

Stubble burning has started in Haryana and Punjab, which contributes significantly to the rise in pollution levels in Delhi and the National Capital Region.

In view of air quality in Delhi-NCR hitting poor level, a Supreme Court-mandated body Thursday announced implementation of graded response action plan (GRAP) from October 15 and a ban on the use of diesel generators, except for essential and emergency services in Delhi and the neighbouring cities of Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Gurugram.

Delhi’s air quality was recorded in the “poor” category on Thursday and is likely to deteriorate further due to unfavourable meteorological conditions and a spike in farm fires.

The city recorded a 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) of 208, which falls in the “poor” category.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that Delhi government will be creating a plasma bank for plasma therapy for COVID-19 patients. Kejriwal has also urged those who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate plasma.

The Delhi government will set up a plasma bank, I request people to donate plasma to save lives of COVID-19 patients,” Mr Kejriwal said during a media briefing, adding that the plasma bank wil srart operating in the capital in the next two working days. He said the state government has, so far, conducted clinical trails of plasma therapy on 29 coronavirus patients and that result was encouraging.

“I request all those (who have recovered from coronavirus) that it’s rare that you get to save lives. I request you to please come forward and donate. This is the true service of god,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr Kejriwal said that a helpline will be set up by the government for queries related to donation of plasma.
One of the most discussed methods of treatment of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus is plasma therapy, which involves the transfusion of plasma from a convalescent coronavirus patient to a critical patient. The blood of a recovering patient is rich in antibodies produced by the body to fight the virus, which are expected to help the critical patient recover

He also said Dr Aseem Gupta, a senior doctor of LNJP Hospital passed away yesterday due to COVID-19. We salute his spirit and sacrifice. His family will be given compensation amount of Rs 1 crore by our government.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday alleged there are some private hospitals who are indulging in black marketing of beds in response to reports that there is a shortage of beds for coronavirus patients in the city.

Warning of strict action, the CM said Delhi government teams are monitoring the “black marketing of beds” and said strict action will be taken in the next few days if hospitals do not start admitting patients, even as he said that some specialised hospitals have come forward with genuine concerns.

Kejriwal said – “We have to remove panic from people’s mind. If everyone, especially asymptomatic people decide to get tested, then our capacity will fall. He requested asymptomatic people to not get tested to leave space for people with serious symptoms.he said says – “Give me some days, if these hospitals do not listen, there will be strict action taken against them. A medical professional from the Delhi government will sit at the reception of every hospital to oversee the bed occupation. We are bringing out an order that will be issued to all hospitals that no suspected Covid-19 case will be turned away from a hospital. If a suspected patient approaches a hospital then that hospital has to test them and diagnose them.”

Delhi Chief Minister said – “After the Covid app launch, there was a controversy. As if we did a bad thing by giving out information. There are some hospitals in Delhi which have become powerful, there have connections in political parties, and they are saying they will not take coronavirus patients. But they will HAVE to, I am warning them, they will not be let go, they have to serve people.”

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said -“You will be admitted if your case is serious. You don’t need to be admitted just because you are Covid-19 positive. More than 80 to 90% of positive case patients don’t need to be admitted. No hospital will refuse admission if beds are available.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said initial results of plasma therapy trial conducted on four Covid-19 patients is encouraging and gives hope to save people’s lives from the dreaded disease.

Addressing an online media briefing, Kejriwal said the government will conduct more clinical trials of plasma therapy in the next two-three days. Thereafter, the government will seek Centre’s nod to use the therapy on all serious Covid-19 patients across the city, he added.

“In the last few days, we have tried plasma therapy on four patients at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital. Till now the results are encouraging,” Kejriwal said, while addressing the media along with a top doctor from the Institute of Liver and Biliary Science.

Two of the four patients may be ready to leave hospital soon, he said, explaining that one of them was in a critical state. “These are only early results. We must not think we have found a cure for coronavirus. This has just given us a ray of hope,” Kejriwal said.

The chief minister appealed to all people who have recovered from the disease to come forward and donate plasma for serious COVID-19 patients to save their lives

Under the plasma therapy technique , transfusion of plasma from recovered patients to severely-ill COVID-19 patients is conducted. Convalescent plasma is an experimental procedure for COVID-19 patients.
SK Sarin, Director of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Science said he was happy with the positive results in the four patients.

“Blood and plasma is ready for two-three other patients that we have at LNJP hospital, we may give them the plasma therapy today,” he said, adding that if 10 patients could be treated using plasma therapy, it could be a good lead.

Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal today gave directions for strict action against district magistrates (DM) and deputy commissioners of police (DCP) for any violation of the ongoing 21-day lockdown in their respective areas, officials said.

The lieutenant governor also directed DMs and DCPs that anyone found roaming without e-pass or valid reason during the lockdown, imposed to check the spread of coronavirus, would be sent to district shelters set up by the administration.

The directions were issued at a high-level meeting which was attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, DMs and DCPs via video-conferencing.

So far, 104 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Delhi.

According to the Union health ministry, the number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 1500 in India today, while the death count rose to 35.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to backlist nearly 800 Indonesian members of Islamic outfit Tablighi Jamaat, which is under scanner for recently organising a religious congregation in Nizamuddin area of south Delhi and spreading coronavirus in the country.

According to reports, the Union Home Ministry has decided to blacklist these preachers from Indonesia for violating the visa rules during lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic. These Indonesian preachers came to India on a tourist visa and participated in a three-day religious conference organised by Tablighi Jamaat in south Delhi this month.

They had participated in a three-day religious conference which was also attended by many people from across the country who later tested positive for COVID-19.

Delhi govt will give Rs 5000 to each construction worker as their livelihood has been affected due to COVID-19 outbreak: CM

Number of night shelters in the city has been increased and more food is being distributed for poor people: CM

In the last 40 hours Delhi has not reported a single COVID-19 case: CM

Discrimination of any person who is working in the battle against Coronavirus as a doctor, nurse, pilot or air hostess is unacceptable: CM

Addressing a video conference on Tuesday Hon’ble Cheif Minister of Delhi Mr Arvind Kejriwal proposed that the Delhi government will give Rs 5000 to each construction worker as their livelihood has been affected due the outbreak of coronavirus under the Construction Workers Welfare Board Fund. He also said that the number of night shelters in the city has been increased and more food is being distributed for homeless people. The Delhi CM reassured the people that the state did not record any new case of coronavirus in the last 40 hours. Mr Kejriwal also said that due to Curfew, several people were not able to get food, and urged the public to send such people to the nearest shelters of Delhi government, where food was arranged.

“Today I want to tell you that in the last 40 hours there has been not a single new Coronavirus positive case in Delhi. Earlier we had total 30 such positive cases and among them, many people are getting better and going home. Till now 5 people have survived and gone home. Right now we have only 23 positive cases in Delhi. But I want to tell you that this is good news but there is no need to cheer yet because the number of cases can increase any time if we do not put proper restrictions or if you do not follow the restrictions. In Italy, in the last 24 hours, more than 600 people have died and in America, in the last 24 hours, more than 150 people have died,” said Mr Kejriwal.

He said that this is an alarming situation worldwide that is why Delhi government has imposed such tough restrictions like lockdown and curfew. “We are trying our best because we understand that these restrictions have brought many difficulties in your life but this is something we have to do because we want to save you, your family, your neighbours and every resident of Delhi,” said the Delhi CM.

He further added that the beauty of India is humanity. “Yesterday I requested the residents of Delhi to come together and help each other in this tough time. Today I am very happy that many people are coming forward and helping each other. In Delhi, nobody should suffer in hunger and it is our collective responsibility to stand beside each other. I also requested the house owners not to force the tenants if they cannot pay the rents. I am not suggesting to not take the rent but the owners can delay the collection or take it in instalments. It is very encouraging that many people have responded to this call and I have received hundreds of messages where people have described how they are helping each other. I am proud of such citizens and I want to tell them that you are the real patriots of India. I want to take the name of Raj Bainsla Ji who has decided that he will not take the rent for the month of March from any of his tenants. Anil Kaushik Ji has informed that he will not take rents from his tenants and drivers for the months of March and April. Naveen Nambardar Ji has also decided not to take rent of this month from his tenants. Azad Shaukeen Ji has also decided the same. Sukant Ballav Ji is an additional DCP of North East Delhi, has taken an old man on his car to the hospital for dialysis. I want to thank all these people for such encouraging steps in this tough time,” said Mr Kejriwal.

He said that the Delhi government is working to ensure that not a single person in Delhi should suffer from hunger. “We have already started distributing food in all the night shelters of Delhi where any person can come and eat. We have witnessed that the number of people is increasing, therefore, we have also decided to increase the number of such night shelters and we will also increase food distribution. But again I want to tell you that I am very happy to know that many people are coming forward to volunteer in the distribution of foods. Many people have said that they will ensure not a single person in their area will suffer from hunger. Gaurav Rai Ji’s name I want to mention because he has ensured that he will distribute food to all the needy people in his area. These are very encouraging incidents and this is how as a nation we become stronger. We all need to come together and ensure that not a single person in our area will suffer from hunger. If we can all come together then that will be the biggest achievement in this toughest time of our country,” said Mr Kejriwal.

He further said that last Sunday in the invitation of our Hon’ble Prime Minister every citizen of India held Janta Curfew across the nation and at 5 PM all came to the balconies and clapped as a mark of encouragement to the people who are serving us in this tough time. “We want to show our gratitude to the nurses, doctors, pilots, air hostess, and other people working on this battle. But with much regret, I am saying that I have received complaints in many places in Delhi that these great people are facing discrimination. Somewhere the people did not allow a pilot to enter the colony because they thought that he could be affected by Coronavirus and the same has happened in some other cases. This is something absolutely unacceptable and such discrimination should not happen in our country. The people who are working as doctors, nurses, pilots, air hostess their responsibility is also ours. If anyone is affected by Coronavirus it is our responsibility to do their treatment so that they can recover fast but if they are not affected then they should not face any kind of discrimination. These are the people who are working relentlessly to give you proper medication and support, therefore, these people should be welcomed and they should not face any kind of discrimination,” said Mr Kejriwal.

He added, “From today we have started preparation to build a foolproof health system to combat the situation if ever we get into stage three of this pandemic. Under senior Dr Sareen, I have constituted a team which will make all the preparations and submit me a report within 24 hours. We do not want to get into stage three but we have to be fully prepared in terms of medical support.”

He also said, “Delhi government will give Rs 5000 to each construction worker as their livelihood has been affected due the outbreak of coronavirus under the Construction Workers Welfare Board Fund.”

************************

CM welcomed a list of people who have come forward in this fight to help the residents

1) Raj Bainsla has decided that he will not take the rent for the month of March from any of his tenants.

CM’s Tweet: Raj Bainsla ji, your step is highly appreciated. At this time, we all have to work for each other and have to help each other. People like you are an inspiration to everyone. I also appeal to other landlords – if your tenant is unable to pay rent, then delay the collection.

Link: https://twitter.com/anilkaushik07/status/1242397454089109509

Naveen Nambardar and Azad Shaukeen: They have also decided not to take rent of this month or the next month from his tenants.

AD DCP North East Sukant Ballabh: He used his official car to transport an elderly man who needed dialysis urgently to the hospital.

CM Tweeted: Great Sukant ji. This is a time to show empathy and help fellow beings. Let’s all help each other.

Delhi Police today dispersed the crowd gathered outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, who assembled there late last night and were demanding action against perpetrators of the violence in Delhi. The crowd mainly consisted of students from JNU, members of the Alumni Association of Jamia Millia Islamia (AAJMI) and Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC). They had surrounded Mr Kejriwal’s residence.

The protesters gathered at around midnight. Police personnel were seen removing them at around 3:30 am.
The students were demanding to meet him and submit a charter of demands over violence in the capital. Water cannons were used by the Delhi Police to disperse the crowd. The students later alleged that they were detained by the police and taken to nearby Civil Lines police station.

Appealing to Mr Kejriwal to take action against the violence in affected areas in North-East Delhi, protesters who called themselves concerned citizens, asked the Chief Minister to personally visit affected areas with local MLAs and organise peace marches to de-escalate tensions.

They also urged the Chief Minister to inform citizens about steps taken by the Delhi government and allow all rescue operations to reach hospitals from the affected areas.

They further appealed to identify perpetrators of violence and take action against them.

Late last evening, Mr Kejriwal called an urgent meeting at his residence, of MLAs and officials of the violence-hit areas of North East Delhi, to take stock of the situation and issued instructions to take all necessary steps to restore peace.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval also reached Seelampur area to take stock of the situation and visited violence-hit areas.

Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party took a big lead over its closest rival, the BJP, as counting began for the Delhi election today. As AAP leading in over 49 seats while the BJP made gains in 15-plus seats.

Exit polls have predicted another term for Arvind Kejriwal, who came to power in 2015 with a massive mandate – forgiven after his apology for the 49-day government of 2014.

The campaign has been bitter and polarised, the political discourse bogged down by hate speeches. A last-minute controversy arose after the voting, over the Election Commission’s delay in announcing the final polling figures.

The Chief Minister has given Delhi what he called a “10-point guarantee card”, which includes free power, 24-hour drinking water on tap, a clean Yamuna and a world-class education to every child. In its manifesto, AAP has also promised round-the-clock markets in the model of Mumbai and expanding the metro network into the “world’s largest”.

The BJP confident that its seven-out-of-seven-score in last year’s Lok Sabha polls in Delhi augurs better fortune. In the run-up to the polls, the party pushed in its 270 MPs, 70 union ministers and state leaders to seek votes. Union minister Amit Shah contributed to the final push with a door-to-door campaign.

Election Held in the shadow of the protests over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act, the National Population Register and the National Register of Citizens, the two-month campaign has been divisive, with the rhetoric on a downward spiral. “Goli maaro” slogans were raised at the meetings of several BJP leaders and the Chief Minister was publicly called a “terrorist” by a union minister.

-BJP’s Kapil Mishra leading from Model Town by a margin of 98 votes.

-AAP’s Manish Sisodia leading from Patparganj by a margin of 112 votes.

-Official EC trends: Aam Aadmi Party leading on 32 seats and Bharatiya Janata Party leading on 16 seats.

-Official EC trends: Aam Aadmi Party leading on 27 seats and Bharatiya Janata Party leading on 16 seats.
