In Hyderabad, over 80% of individuals with fatty liver were diabetic, and three-fourths of hypertensive had fatty liver.

National, September 26, 2025: On World Heart Day 2025, Apollo Hospitals is urging every Indian to “not miss a beat” and make heart-healthy living a daily discipline. Cardiovascular disease continues to claim millions of lives each year, yet most of these losses are preventable through timely detection, treatment, and lifestyle changes. With the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat”, Apollo is calling on individuals, families, workplaces, and communities to embrace prevention-first healthcare, close care gaps, and ensure timely screening across every age group.

Findings from Apollo’s Health of the Nation 2025 study underscore the urgency. Silent risks are widespread—artery calcification, fatty liver, and sleep apnea are being detected even in those without symptoms. Post-menopausal women face higher cardiovascular risk and need tailored screening. Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies and anemia reduce energy levels, making regular exercise harder to sustain. Alarmingly, inactivity among teenagers is leading to poor flexibility, strength, and balance before the age of 25, setting the stage for future heart disease.

Regional trends across Apollo’s network reflect the challenge:

· In Hyderabad, over 80% of individuals with fatty liver were diabetic, and three-fourths of hypertensive had fatty liver.

· In Delhi-NCR, hypertension prevalence continues to rise, with fatty liver seen in 65% of those screened.

· In Mumbai, 46% of asymptomatic individuals had coronary calcium; 25% already had obstructive CAD, and 2.5% were under 40.

· In Chennai, 29% were diabetic and 37% pre-diabetic.

· In Bengaluru, early-age hypertension and dyslipidemia are driven by sedentary indoor work hours.

· In Kolkata, hypertension and diabetes co-exist with hidden anemia and micronutrient deficiencies.

· In Lucknow, risks begin early, with 28% of college students’ overweight and 19% pre-hypertensive.

As India’s pioneer in comprehensive cardiac care since 1983, Apollo Hospitals has consistently set benchmarks in outcomes and innovation. With over 3 lakh heart surgeries at a 99.6% success rate, more than 500 robotic cardiac procedures, 500+ TAVI interventions, and a team of over 375 cardiologists, Apollo continues to lead India’s fight against heart disease.

Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, said:
“When we founded Apollo Hospitals, our purpose was simple: to save hearts and lives and restore hope. Four decades later, the science is clear – waiting for symptoms is waiting too long. ‘Don’t Miss a Beat’ is a call to every Indian household to know your blood pressure and your numbers, sleep well, be active, and seek timely medical advice. As a pioneer in cardiac care, Apollo brings trusted clinicians and advanced, data-led tools together so that risk is found early and treatment is precise. If India embraces prevention as a daily discipline, we will add millions of healthy years and spare millions of families’ needless loss – one heartbeat at a time.”

As India marks World Heart Day 2025, Apollo Hospitals reaffirms its commitment to protecting every heartbeat through access, equity, and prevention. Because when it comes to the Indian heart, every beat matters.

Hyderabad, July 23 2025– Today, Apollo Hospitals and Siemens Healthineers are proud to announce a research collaboration founded on a shared ambition to advance innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) and imaging technologies, with the goal of improving lives. The research, spanning quantitative ultrasound imaging to AI-driven clinical solutions, aims to enhance liver disease management by improving patient care pathways and outcomes—from early detection and risk stratification to monitoring intervention and therapy response.

The partnership combines technical and clinical expertise to develop innovative healthcare solutions for the growing burden of liver diseases in India, focusing on early diagnosis, accurate detection, and precise monitoring to improve patient outcomes.

As per Government of India guidelines, Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), referred to as NAFLD in the report, is a growing cause of liver disease in India. Prevalence ranges from 9% to 32%, higher among those who are overweight, obese, or have diabetes. NFHS-4 (2015-2016) reports 18-20% of adults are overweight/obese and 3-8% have abnormal blood sugar. MASLD significantly increases cardiovascular risk, with heart disease being the leading cause of death.

Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director – Apollo Hospitals said, “At Apollo, we believe that the future of healthcare lies at the intersection of clinical excellence and cutting-edge technology anchored in patient centricity. Our collaboration with Siemens Healthineers is a transformative step in using AI to redefine non-invasive diagnostics for liver disease. Due to diagnostic challenges and the evolving understanding of the disease, the true prevalence of MASLD may be underestimated that poses a significant public health challenge, requiring increased awareness, early detection, and effective management strategies. AI-driven disease progression models shall play a pivotal role in early detection of fibrosis, allowing timely interventions, cost-effective screening, and improved patient outcomes. This model shall also facilitate precision population health strategies and clinical decision support across care settings. This partnership also reflects Apollo’s pioneering vision to embed intelligent systems across the clinical spectrum that predict faster, more accurate diagnoses and proactive patient management.”

“Liver disease is a growing health concern in India; it’s crucial to prioritize early diagnosis and prevention through advanced diagnostic tools, lifestyle changes, and increased awareness to reverse this trend. We believe that advanced technologies will aid timely and precise diagnosis, leading to better disease management and improving the quality of life for patients. Our joint effort will help address the unmet needs in liver disease diagnosis and treatment, and we look forward to a fruitful partnership”- said Hariharan Subramanian, Managing Director, Siemens Healthcare, Private Limited.

Following the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding, the Master Research Agreement (MRA) was formalized in March 2025, establishing a foundation for collaborative research in diagnostic and interventional ultrasound imaging. The signing ceremony for the MRA Addendum was held on July 23, 2025, in Hyderabad, marking a significant milestone in this partnership.

~ Apollo Hospitals Announces a Landmark Commitment to Preventive Health on National Doctors’ Day ~

National July, 01: On the occasion of National Doctors’ Day, Apollo Hospitals Chairman Dr. Prathap C. Reddy announced a renewed and historic commitment to reshape India’s health future—by doubling down on prevention-first care to combat the nation’s growing Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) crisis. Building on over four decades of clinical leadership, this strategic step reinforces Apollo’s pioneering focus on AI-powered, tech-enabled preventive health—transforming how India detects, predicts, and ultimately prevents disease.

Building on four decades of clinical leadership, this strategic step deepens Apollo’s pioneering focus on prevention, using cutting-edge technology and AI-powered intelligence to tackle the NCD crisis.

The announcement reflects a mission that began as early as 1974, when Dr. Reddy introduced India’s first structured health check. Since then, Apollo has built a globally benchmarked ecosystem—what he calls the “science of preventive health”—that has touched more than 29 million lives worldwide.

Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder and Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, stated:
“As a doctor, I have witnessed firsthand the staggering toll that non-communicable diseases are taking on our nation — not just on health, but across our economy, our families, and our future. We are facing a silent tsunami, and the only way to fight it is by acting early. Today, with the power of artificial intelligence and evidence-based preventive programs, we have the unprecedented ability to detect risk before disease manifests — to arrest its progress, and in many cases, reverse it altogether. Prevention must become the foundation of our national health strategy.”

Fighting the NCD Tsunami: A National Mission

India faces an unprecedented health crisis—non-communicable diseases now claim 63% of all deaths, what makes this silent epidemic even more urgent is its growing toll on younger lives, cutting potential short far too soon.

The power of early detection and intervention has been scientifically validated: cardiovascular events can be prevented in 80% of cases, diabetes complications reduced by 70%, and cancer mortality decreased by 50% through systematic screening and lifestyle modification programs.

Apollo’s preventive healthcare model, which at its core houses innovations like AICVD, an AI model for early cardiovascular risk prediction; structured screening protocols for cancer, stroke, lung, and metabolic conditions which help predict NCD’s at an early stage reducing the burden on the nation. With facilities like home diagnostics, real-time digital reports; and mobile medical units reaching underserved communities Apollo’s preventive care model is designed to serve everyone, everywhere.

Apollo’s comprehensive preventive framework not only supports the Government of India’s public health priorities but also aligns with the WHO’s Sustainable Development Goals — shifting healthcare from episodic treatment to continuous wellness and placing the power of prevention in the hands of every citizen.

At the heart of this vision lies Apollo ZEN — the gold standard in preventive health. Designed as the most personalised, scientifically backed health check program in the country, ZEN integrates state-of-the-art diagnostics, AI-driven clinical insights, expert guidance from super-specialists and consistent follow-up by lifestyle medicine expert into a seamless, unified experience. It’s much more than just a health check, ZEN is a blueprint for healthy longevity.

A Message to Every Indian: A New Beginning

“To every Indian, my message this Doctors’ Day is simple yet urgent — let this be the moment we shift our mindset as a nation. Let us choose foresight over fear, action over anxiety, and wellness over wait-and-watch. The future of our health lies not in reacting to illness, but in being proactive and preventing it before it begins. We have spent four decades perfecting the science of prevention. Today, we commit ourselves to a greater purpose — to ensure that every Indian, in every corner of the country, benefits from this mastery. Your health is your greatest asset — and with Apollo’s perfected preventive care, that asset is not only protected, but optimised and continuously strengthened for the life you deserve”, stated Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group.

FY25 was a defining year. With revenues crossing ₹20,000 crores and Healthcare Services surpassing ₹11,000 crores, we are humbled by the trust placed in us across India and beyond.

Technology expanded the possibilities of healing, but compassion remained our foundation. A strong rise in patient volumes is a testament to the deep confidence people have in Apollo’s care and our differentiated Centers of Excellence. As we grow, our focus remains unwavering—making advanced, high- quality care accessible and affordable to all.

To address the rising burden of non-communicable diseases, we are intensifying our preventive care mission. Through Apollo ProHealth, we are set to globally launch pioneering wellness programs that redefine the healthcare landscape — shifting the focus from reactive treatment to proactive, preventive care.

Innovation remains our most powerful ally — from AI-powered diagnostics to precision robotic surgeries, all enabled by a digital backbone that is reimagining the entire patient- care journey, enabling care that is predictive, personalised, and scalable.

We are heartened by the performance of Apollo Health Co and AHLL, two strong pillars of the integrated care network we have created for the consumer. Apollo Pharmacies crossed 6,600 stores this year and Apollo 24|7 commenced distribution of Insurance products to increase access to care. AHLL has strengthened its capability through its Global Reference Labs and highly specialized test menu updated for the latest medical advancements.

But what truly drives Apollo forward is our people—the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who carry our legacy in every life they touch. Their commitment is creating a healthcare system that is not only clinically world-class but also deeply human.

As we step into FY26, our purpose remains clear: to touch a billion lives, lead with innovation and empathy, and help build a healthier, stronger India for future generations.”

Hyderabad, May 17, 2025: On the occasion of World Hypertension Day, Apollo Hospitals is drawing attention to the rising prevalence of hypertension in India. With nearly 30% of India’s adult population living with high blood pressure, hypertension has become one of the leading risk factors for heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, and premature death. Despite its significant impact on public health, a large number of hypertensive people remain undiagnosed, underlining the urgency for a national shift in healthcare priorities.

The Growing Burden of Hypertension in India

Recent studies indicate that hypertension is affecting approximately 300 million people. Notably, nearly half of those with high blood pressure remain unaware of their condition. The prevalence is notably high among younger populations, with 26% of those aged under 45 diagnosed with high blood pressure in 2024.

Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Founder and Chairman of Apollo Hospitals said, “India has overcome many public health crises, and each success was driven by awareness and collective effort. At Apollo Hospitals, we believe prevention is the first prescription. Through initiatives like Apollo ProHealth, we are transforming over 25 million screenings into powerful action—enhancing digital hypertension monitoring, strengthening policy advocacy, and making routine screenings a national priority. We want to see healthier, longer lives for every Indian.”

There is escalating pressure on India’s healthcare system, particularly in major cities, with Hyderabad (68%), Delhi (65%), and Chennai (63%) reporting highest prevalence. This reflects poorly on ‘Urban lifestyles’, characterized by chronic stress and sedentary routines accelerating cardiac risk.

Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals, said, “Hypertension is no longer a condition confined to age or genetics—it is increasingly becoming a silent epidemic among young urban populations. The real challenge lies not just in measuring blood pressure, but in understanding the broader cardiovascular risk profile of an individual. We must move beyond isolated metrics and embrace a more holistic understanding of biomarkers, as even mild imbalances can be early indicators of more serious underlying conditions. Moreover, with rapid urbanisation, we are witnessing a sharp rise in sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary habits, and unrelenting stress, all of which are fuelling this public health crisis. Prevention and early intervention are not just options, they are imperatives. Alarmingly, nearly 30% of India’s urban population under the age of 40 is already affected by hypertension or pre-hypertension. This calls for immediate and collective action across healthcare, policy, and community awareness to protect the health of our fellow citizens.”

The Path to Prevention: Personalized and Tech-enabled

Evidence shows that 80% of heart attacks and strokes caused by hypertension could be prevented through simple lifestyle changes such as reducing salt intake, increasing physical activity, and stress management. While the medical management of hypertension is crucial, Apollo Hospitals is advocating for a shift towards preventive healthcare. The key to reversing the growing burden of hypertension lies in empowering individuals to take control of their health through regular screenings, healthier lifestyle choices, and managing risk factors before they evolve into serious complications.

Apollo Hospitals is advocating for integrating technology into the country’s healthcare systems to enhance the detection and management of hypertension. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI), predictive analytics, and telemedicine are transforming how healthcare is delivered, allowing for more accurate risk assessments, early detection, and continuous management of hypertension.

A National Call to Action: A Collective Responsibility

Apollo is calling for a national rethink of cardiovascular prevention, urging Indians to start screenings early, particularly after the age of 30 or for those with a family history of heart disease. Incorporating advanced imaging techniques like Coronary Calcium Scoring can help reveal hidden risks, while adopting preventive treatment strategies for those showing early markers, even if asymptomatic, can significantly reduce future complications. Studies indicate a 45–50% reduction in cardiovascular events when individuals with early atherosclerosis receive guideline-based interventions.

The interactive Gratitude Wall, was a uniquely designed platform for colleagues, patients, and families to post handwritten notes, photographs, and drawings expressing thanks for the tireless efforts of their nursing heroes. From messages of encouragement to stories of care that went above and beyond, the wall became an enduring symbol of gratitude. Nurses paused through the day to read these heartfelt tributes, visibly moved by the outpouring of appreciation and support.

Reflecting on the significance of the International Nurses Day 2025, Ms. Sindoori Reddy, Director – Strategy, Apollo Hospitals said, “On International Nurses Day, we salute the steadfast dedication of our nurses who are a crucial pillar of the healthcare ecosystem. Their safety and well-being is of paramount importance and ‘The Pink Book’ embodies our commitment to creating safe and supportive environments for our nursing teams. We are anchored in sustaining a future where every nurse thrives, and every patient receives exceptional care.”

Capt (Dr.) Usha Banerjee, Group Director Nursing, Apollo Hospitals added, “This year’s theme, ‘Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies,’ resonates deeply with our mission at Apollo Hospitals. Nurses are the heartbeat of our healthcare system, and we hold their well-being as paramount. Today, we celebrate our nurses’ invaluable contributions and reaffirm our commitment to their continuous support and development.”

Ms. Sunita Domingo, Director – Nursing, Apollo Hospitals, Telangana Region, said

“Today, as we celebrate our nurses, the energy in the air is electric. It’s an acknowledgement of how much they give, day in and day out. The music, the dances, the notes on the Gratitude Wall—everything speaks to the heart of what we do here. It’s been an honour to see them celebrated in such a meaningful way. We’re reminded, once again, that the work they do goes far beyond care—it’s a vital part of our shared purpose.”

Cultural performances and celebratory luncheons were also organised at Apollo hospitals Hyderabad campus and staff hostels with traditional dances, music recitals, and short theatrical pieces, all crafted by the nurses, reflecting the unity and shared purpose that binds them together in their service to patients.

The celebrations also brought into focus the well‑being initiatives available for nurses, including access to mental health support and career‑development workshops. These initiatives address the growing recognition that nurse wellness is integral to patient safety, staff retention, and overall healthcare quality.

As the celebrations draw to a close, the Gratitude Wall will remain on display in the hospitals’ atrium for some time, serving as a reminder of the impact nursing professionals have on individuals and communities alike.

Tomorrow’s health depends on the strength of our nurses today, and Apollo Hospitals is proud to stand alongside them in service of a healthier, happier and a more compassionate world.

Hyderabad, 24th April 2025: Apollo Jubilee Hills is proud to announce a significant milestone in advanced orthopedic care with the successful completion of Telangana’s first-ever allograft tendon (Achilles tendon) augmentation for lower trapezius transfer—performed by Dr. Prashant Meshram, Consultant Shoulder Surgeon. The complex surgery marks not only a first for the state but also a pioneering moment for Apollo Hospitals nationwide, being the first use of a tendon allograft for shoulder preservation across the group.

The surgery was performed on a 58-year-old active individual who had been living with chronic pain and significant weakness in his right shoulder for over six months following a fall. Diagnosed with a massive, irreparable rotator cuff tear compounded by early onset arthritis, the patient had explored multiple hospitals before choosing Apollo Jubilee Hills and Dr. Meshram for his care.

In what was a highly intricate procedure, Dr. Meshram performed an arthroscopic-assisted lower trapezius transfer, carefully augmented with an Achilles tendon allograft. The reconstruction also involved biceps tendon rerouting and subscapularis tendon repair—collectively aiming to restore shoulder mechanics and prevent the progression of arthritis. Post-operative imaging showed reversal of superior head migration, a critical indicator of restored joint alignment and function.

Behind the scenes, a skilled and compassionate team—comprising anesthesiologists, surgical techs, nurses, and operating room staff—played an instrumental role in ensuring the precision and success of this delicate surgery.

At Apollo Jubilee Hills, our purpose is rooted in restoring independence, dignity, and quality of life for every patient. This pioneering step in shoulder joint preservation strengthens our legacy of addressing complex musculoskeletal conditions with care, courage, and clinical excellence.

Symptom-Based Healthcare is not the only indicator of a country’s health: A New Era of Preventive Care is Emerging, says Apollo Hospitals’ Health of the Nation 2025 Report

~ Apollo ProHealth Preventive Health Checks have gone up by almost 150% in 5 Years~

~ Shows increase in fatty liver, menopause-linked risks, nutritional deficiencies, childhood obesity and other NCDs amongst the people screened across the Apollo ecosystem ~

Telangana, April 8, 2025: Apollo Hospitals today launched the fifth edition of its Health of the Nation 2025 (HoN-2025) report with a clear message: “Don’t wait for symptoms—make preventive health your priority.” Based on health screenings from over 2.5 million individuals across the Apollo ecosystem in India, the report reveals a silent epidemic—millions are living with undiagnosed chronic conditions despite showing no visible symptoms. Notably, 26% were found hypertensive and 23% diabetic despite being asymptomatic, underlining that a symptom-led healthcare model is no longer viable.

Preventive health checks have grown exponentially as recorded by Apollo Hospitals, rising from 1 million in 2019 to over 2.5 million in 2024 — a 150% increase in just five years. This reflects a growing shift in public awareness and proactive engagement with preventive healthcare.

The insights in HoN 2025 are drawn from de-identified electronic medical records (EMRs of preventive health checks), structured clinical evaluations, and AI-driven risk stratification across Apollo’s hospitals, clinics, diagnostics labs, and wellness centers.

The report zeroes in on three urgent health challenges: fatty liver disease, post-menopausal health decline, and childhood obesity, emphasizing the need for early personalized interventions and lifestyle-based care models.

Dr. Prathap Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals said, “India must rise to the opportunity of creating healthy, happy families by placing health at the heart of every household. Preventive healthcare is no longer a future ambition—it is the cornerstone of a nation’s well-being today. This report affirms our collective responsibility to act early, screen deeply, and empower every citizen with knowledge and access. It is time to integrate preventive care into every educational curriculum, corporate benefits, and family routines. Only then, can we shift from treating illness to preserving health and ensure a resilient, healthier India for generations to come.”

Dr. Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals added, “The Health of the Nation Report reaffirms Apollo’s long-standing philosophy that the future of healthcare is early, data-led, and personalized. When 66% of people screened have fatty liver, 85% of them being non-alcoholic; it signals the urgency for new diagnostics and early detection at scale. Traditional screening is no longer enough. Apollo’s ProHealth program is not just empowering individuals to take control of their health; it is laying the foundation for scalable and predictive healthcare. The results from ProHealth show that with consistent follow-up and nudges and real-time data, we can create measurable population-level impact. Prevention is India’s most scalable healthcare solution and Apollo’s mission is to democratize preventive health.”

Hidden Disease, Visible Numbers: Fatty Liver as India’s New Metabolic Signal

Once seen as a concern only for those who consumed alcohol, fatty liver appears to emerge as an important health issue linked to obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. Of the 257,199 individuals screened, a staggering 65% had fatty liver, and 85% of those were non-alcoholic. More than half had normal blood tests—meaning traditional diagnostics alone are not enough for a thorough evaluation.

Women’s Health: A Critical Turning Point Post-Menopause

The HoN 2025 report highlights a dramatic escalation in health risks for women post-menopause. Diabetes rates spike from 14% pre-menopause to 40% post-menopause, obesity climbs sharply from 76% to 86%, and fatty liver prevalence rises from 54% to 70%. These significant shifts underline hormonal changes’ profound impact on women’s long-term health, emphasizing the necessity for proactive, personalized health strategies for women as they approach menopause.

Rising Cases of Obesity in Kids’: The Truth We Can’t Ignore Anymore!

Obesity among students is rising rapidly, posing serious long-term health threats. The report found that 8% of primary school students were already overweight or obese—an early indicator. This prevalence increases significantly through adolescence, reaching 28% among college students, highlighting the compounding impact of lifestyle and dietary changes. Additionally, 19% of college students were found to be pre-hypertensive, showing that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are taking root much earlier than previously recognized.

Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals said, “The Health of the Nation 2025 report highlights the critical issues that we must address, particularly regarding women’s health and childhood obesity. The rise in metabolic risks post-menopause is a clear indicator that we need more than just routine screenings. It is essential to have age-appropriate, gender-sensitive protocols that can truly address the unique needs of women. At Apollo, we are committed to integrating these findings into a life-stage-based care model, offering support for women at every phase of their health journey. The report also underscores the increasing rates of obesity and pre-hypertension among children, which is deeply concerning. These are not just statistics but signs that we must act swiftly. As a pioneering institution, Apollo is determined to make a difference in the lives of individuals and communities across the nation.”

Beyond the Obvious: A Deeper Look at India’s Evolving Health Landscape

Hypertension: A Quiet but Persistent Risk

Screening around 450000 individuals in 2024 revealed that 26% were hypertensive, often without any symptoms. Hypertension continues to be a key contributor to India’s cardiovascular burden and remains underdiagnosed and undertreated. The report calls for standardized blood pressure monitoring and public health campaigns that make BP check a routine part of wellness.

Heart Disease Hiding in Plain Sight

Among asymptomatic individuals who underwent coronary calcium scoring, 46% had calcium deposits, which are early signs of atherosclerosis. Of these, 25% had obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). Even more striking, 2.5% of those with calcium deposits were under the age of 40. These figures reinforce the importance of advanced imaging techniques like calcium scoring and CT angiography for detecting early risk.

Mental Health: A Growing but Under-Recognized Challenge

Mental health has long lingered in the shadows of India’s public health conversation, but the latest data shines a much-needed spotlight. Of the 47,424 individuals screened for depression using the PHQ-9 scale, 7% of women and 5% of men exhibited signs of clinical depression, with the burden peaking in the middle-age bracket (40–55). These figures highlight not just a growing prevalence but also the deep societal stigma that continues to hinder early intervention. Apollo Hospitals is advocating for integrated mental health assessments in routine check-ups, wider use of digital mental health platforms, and community-level awareness to foster openness and timely care.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): The Sleep Disorder India Can’t Ignore

The Health of the Nation 2025 report reveals a startling trend: 1 in 4 Indians are at high risk for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)—a disorder closely linked to obesity, cardiovascular disease, and daytime fatigue. Based on screenings of 53,000 individuals, 33% of men and 10% of women were identified as high-risk. Risk levels rise sharply with age, affecting 68% of men and 22% of women over 55. Despite its high prevalence, OSA remains underdiagnosed, often mistaken for general fatigue or stress. Apollo is calling for routine sleep risk assessments in metabolic screenings, stronger public awareness about OSA symptoms, and workplace wellness programs that address sleep hygiene as a core pillar of preventive care.

Cancer Detection: Age Trends Offer New Insights

In 2024, the median age for cervical cancer diagnosis was 49, for breast cancer 57, and lung cancer 61—a full decade earlier than global averages. The report advocates lowering the age threshold for routine screening and driving awareness in urban and rural populations alike.

Micronutrient Deficiencies: A Foundation Health Issue

Anemia affected 45% of women and 26% of men, while Vitamin D deficiency impacted 77% of women and 82% of men. Vitamin B12 deficiency was also significant, with 38% of men and 27% of women showing low levels. Among those under 40, the deficiency was even more pronounced—49% of men and 35% of women were vitamin B12 deficient. These gaps, if left unaddressed, can impair energy, cognition, and metabolic function. Apollo recommends widespread education as an essential first step towards improving national nutrition and long-term health.

Obesity and Metabolic Dysfunction: The Cascade Continues

The report highlights that 61% of individuals screened were obese, with another 18% overweight. Obesity continues to act as the root cause of a range of NCDs. Apollo supports expanding physical literacy in schools and workplaces and making BMI and metabolic screenings part of every annual health check.

Aim Toward a Preventive, Data-Led Healthcare System

Apollo Hospitals’ ProHealth program aims to advocate for a paradigm shift in India’s healthcare approach—from curative to preventive, and from symptom-led to data-driven. The organization’s ProHealth program has been setting the precedence and proven its effectiveness by integrating advanced diagnostics, expert doctor driven path to wellness, AI-powered predictive risk scores, personalized health nudges, and early interventions. The program tracks key health metrics in real time and provides actionable recommendations tailored to each individual, enabling proactive management of chronic conditions.

59% of diabetics reduced HbA1C levels

51% of hypertensive participants lowered their blood pressure

47% of overweight participants achieved weight loss

By addressing health risks early and guiding individuals with personalized interventions, the program aims to reduce the progression of diseases before they require complex treatment. Overall, the findings of HoN-2025 build a strong case for embedding preventive healthcare into public health policy, health insurance coverage, and workplace wellness. The way forward lies in early risk identification, lifestyle modification, and equitable access to diagnostics.

State-wise microcosm representation based on screenings conducted across Apollo Hospitals over the past year.

AP + Telangana

24% of individuals were found to have hypertension.

A combined 82% of the screened population is overweight or obese.

81% were Vitamin D deficient.

Nearly 1 in 2 individuals (47%) showed signs of Grade I fatty liver, an early-stage condition tied to obesity and metabolic imbalances.

27% screened were found to be anaemic, pointing to nutritional gaps, especially in iron-rich foods.

A staggering 83% of people screened were found to have reduced flexibility, showing how physical inactivity is impacting everyday quality of life.

Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad Becomes India’s First AHA-Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, Setting a New Standard in Stroke Care

Hyderabad, March 24, 2025: Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad has set a new benchmark for stroke care in the country with the Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA). With the AHA certification, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, has successfully demonstrated that it meets the most stringent criteria in emergency response with specialized stroke teams, stroke diagnosis with advanced imaging, and critical care, distinguishing it as the first institution in India to earn the AHA’s highest possible stroke-care certification.

Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad has a dedicated and specialized, multidisciplinary stroke team on standby 24/7, made up of emergency physicians, neurologists, interventional neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons, intensivists, and specialized nursing staff. The multidisciplinary team of experts includes Dr Alok Ranjan-Sr Consultant & HOD- Neurosurgery, Dr. Imron Subhan, Senior Consultant & Head – Emergency Medicine; Dr. K. Subba Reddy, Senior Consultant Intensivist & Head of Critical Care; Dr. Suresh Girgani, Interventional Neuro Radiologist and Dr. C. Rajesh Reddy, Neurologist.

Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director- Apollo Hospitals Group said “Achieving the prestigious AHA certification as the first hospital in India marks a significant milestone, validating our unwavering commitment to providing world-class healthcare. Recognizing that time and skill save lives, we leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of excellence. This certification assures patients of the fastest, most accurate care protocols, ensuring the best possible recovery. It reflects our relentless pursuit of excellence and adherence to global quality and patient safety standards.”

Mr. V. Tejesvi Rao, CEO, Apollo Hospitals – Telangana Region said, “This certification is an acknowledgment of the top-tier care we provide, and is also a significant milestone in our journey of transforming healthcare standards in the country. Adopting a cross-disciplinary approach to stroke care from diagnosis through rehabilitation, we ensure that every patient receives tailored medical intervention and critical-care support designed to minimize disability and accelerate recovery. Through strategic collaborations, continual research, and community outreach, we are elevating stroke care so that patients everywhere can have access to the highest standard of treatment.”

This accreditation milestone highlights the comprehensive approach taken by Apollo Hospitals to support patients from the initial onset of stroke symptoms through rehabilitation and post-stroke recovery. A stroke, often referred to as a “brain attack”, occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted. This lack of blood flow, typically due to a blocked or ruptured vessel, can lead to the sudden loss of certain bodily functions, such as the ability to speak, move, or use one side of the body. Swift detection and immediate care are crucial in minimizing disability and saving lives.

Dr. Imron Subhan, Head of Emergency Medicine at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad said, “Studies in Telangana have shown a need to provide structured clinical management in treating emergency stroke cases with stroke care services provided by organized multidisciplinary teams. With our dedicated emergency number 1066, connected ambulances where specialists can treat a patient while still on the road, well-trained emergency physicians and nurses, we are already delivering world-class stroke care. We are now proud to be the first AHA-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in India.”

India faces a growing health crisis when it comes to stroke, with lifestyle changes. In many regions, lack of awareness and insufficient emergency response systems hamper timely care. This can lead to worsened outcomes, including extensive neurological damage or death. Now, the new AHA-certified Comprehensive Stroke Centre at Apollo Hospitals signifies a ground-breaking improvement in how stroke cases can be identified, treated, and managed. By combining cutting-edge imaging equipment, real-time communication between EMS and hospital teams, and well-established treatment protocols that align with best global practices, patients at Apollo Hospitals now receive a unified care experience that dramatically increases the chances of recovery with fewer complications.

The Comprehensive Stroke Center certification by the American Heart Association, a global authority in cardiovascular, heart, and stroke care, is the gold standard for stroke care worldwide and requires hospitals to fulfill a rigorous set of requirements. Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, has met or exceeded each of these requirements, setting a benchmark in excellence for stroke care in India. These include:

· Integrated Emergency and Stroke Pathways with a highly efficient stroke-alert system, ensuring rapid identification of stroke patients even before they reach the hospital. This includes coordination between emergency medical services (EMS), a streamlined triage process, and the immediate administration of clot-busting drugs when appropriate.

· Round-the-clock availability of advanced imaging capabilities such as CT scans, MRIs, and other specialized neuroimaging to accurately diagnose stroke type and severity, enabling targeted interventions.

24/7 availability of interventional neurology services for advanced stroke interventions, such as endovascular thrombectomy (removal of clots through a catheter) at any hour, significantly improving patient outcomes.

· A specialized neuro-intensive care unit, staffed by experts in critical care and stroke management, is essential for ongoing patient observation, stabilization, and recovery.

· Continuous research and education in stroke care with training for medical personnel and patient education initiatives to maintain the highest standards of practice.

Apollo Hospitals has consistently been at the forefront of medical breakthroughs in India. Notably, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, was the first hospital outside the United States to be awarded a disease-specific accreditation for stroke management in 2006. This legacy of excellence has laid the foundation for more advanced programs that harness innovative technologies, multidisciplinary teamwork, and research-driven practices to fight the growing burden of stroke in India.
