ALIMCO To Scale Up Production Of High-Quality Assistive Devices, Deepen Research & Development

NEW DELHI. The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, under the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry, has been entrusted with a pivotal role in expanding access to high-quality assistive technologies and services across the country. The Union Budget, through the newly announced Divyang Sahara Yojana, proposes to support ALIMCO to scale up production of high-quality assistive devices, deepen research and development and integrate advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, into product design and services. The budget also proposes to strengthen the existing Pradhan Mantri Divyang Vayoshri Kendras and support the establishment and modernisation of assistive technology marts as retail-style centres for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said that the budget reflects the government’s approach to empowering persons with disabilities through both dignified livelihoods and access to high-quality assistive devices.

The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) celebrated its 53rd Foundation Day in New Delhi with the unveiling of a refreshed corporate logo and the launch of two advanced mobility solutions—the 3-Wheeler EV Scooter and the Clip-on Motorised Wheelchair. The event was graced by Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment,

Dr. Virendra Kumar, and Union Minister of State, Shri B. L. Verma. Dr. Virendra Kumar highlighted ALIMCO’s 53-year evolution from a manufacturing unit into a national institution built on innovation and empathy, noting its key role in supporting over 32 lakh Divyang beneficiaries under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Shri B. L. Verma described the new mobility devices as powerful enablers of dignity and independence, reflecting India’s rising capability in inclusive technology.

Smt. Manmeet Kaur Nanda, Additional Secretary, DEPwD, hailed the day as a milestone in ALIMCO’s journey toward self-reliance and inclusion, commending its workforce and its engagement with more than 80 start-ups in advancing smart and AI-assisted assistive technologies. Introducing the organisation’s new visual identity, CMD Shri Praveen Kumar said the purple logo symbolises dignity, inclusion, and engineering excellence, underscoring ALIMCO’s commitment to delivering modern, high-impact solutions. The celebration saw participation from senior officials of the ministry, allied organisations, and ALIMCO employees.

GRID-INDIA has signed an MoU with ALIMCO at its Corporate Centre in New Delhi to strengthen its CSR efforts toward empowering persons with disabilities. The agreement, signed in the presence of senior officials from both organizations, enables GRID-INDIA to provide assistive aids and appliances to differently abled individuals. This collaboration aims to promote inclusion, enhance accessibility, and contribute to social upliftment through meaningful welfare initiatives.

ALIMCO to Set Up 200+ New PM Divyasha Kendras by 2029

New Delhi. The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has announced an ambitious plan to expand its network of Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendras (PMDKs), with over 200 new centres to be established by 2029. The move will bring the total number of PMDKs to 300, ensuring that each is located within a 100-km radius to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

The announcement was made during the Synergy Summit held in New Delhi today, jointly organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and ALIMCO. The summit focused on boosting the production and distribution of assistive devices, forging stronger partnerships with state governments, and strengthening the PMDK initiative.

ALIMCO Chairman and Managing Director Praveen Kumar highlighted that the organisation has so far distributed 23 lakh assistive devices to persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) and six lakh devices to senior citizens. Currently, 78 PMDKs are operational across the country, with plans for rapid expansion.

In addition to scaling up its network of centres, ALIMCO is also enhancing after-sales services through its AASRA service centres. The corporation unveiled upcoming innovations, including a three-wheeler electric scooter and an improved motorised tricycle designed for persons with disabilities. These vehicles are aimed at simplifying mobility and will be accessible without the need for a driving license.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is dedicated to supporting marginalized communities through meaningful CSR initiatives. In collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), AAI is distributing assistive devices valued at Rs 70 lakh at Divyangjan camps in Baghpat (Uttar Pradesh) and Srikakulam (Telangana).

On February 16, 2025, Sh. Vipin Kumar, Chairman of AAI, led this initiative in Baraut, Baghpat, where he distributed assistive devices to individuals with disabilities.

The dignitaries distributed Battery Operated Motorized Tricycles, Hand Propelled Tricycle, Wheel Chairs, Hearing Aids, Smart/ Sugamya Cane, Smart Phone, Crutch Axilla besides other assistive devices to 66 Divyangjans and Senior Citizens. It is noteworthy that the program was part of the initiative launched by SAIL to provide such useful aids to the disabled persons across all its units.

It is noteworthy that RSP has signed an MoU with ALIMCO for the distribution of aids and assistive devices to differently abled persons and senior citizens. Similar programmes are scheduled to be held at other neighbouring areas and Blocks.
