Bengaluru, 05 December 2025: Air India, India’s leading global airline, and Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, have entered a bilateral interline partnership aimed at boosting connectivity between the two countries.

Through this new partnership, Air India provides its guests convenient access to 16 islands across the Maldives through Maldivian’s extensive network, enabling smooth connections via Malé to islands across the archipelago such as Hanimaadhoo, Kooddoo, Gan, Kaadedhdhoo, Kulhudhuffushi, Dharavandhoo, Maafaru, and Kadhdoo, among others.

This also enables Maldivian to welcome Air India guests from Delhi and Mumbai or those connecting through these large hubs onto Maldivian-operated flights from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram to Malé and Hanimaadhoo Island.

The interline partnership enables guests of both carriers to seamlessly travel on a single itinerary that combine Air India and Maldivian flights, ensuring convenient connections and coordinated baggage handling.

“The Maldives continues to be one of the most preferred leisure destinations for Indian travellers, and this interline partnership with Maldivian opens the door to the country’s lesser-explored atolls and islands”, said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India. “By combining Air India’s extensive global network with Maldivian’s reach across domestic points beyond Malé, guests can now discover the true diversity of the archipelago on a single itinerary.”

Air India is the only carrier operating daily flights between Delhi and Malé, providing a direct capital-to-capital link. Air India deploys more than 55,000 seats to the Maldives annually (in one direction), contributing significantly to the country’s tourism and trade.

With an extensive worldwide network spanning five continents, Air India not only carries passengers from India to the Maldives, but also those from several points in Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East via Delhi.

“This partnership marks a new chapter in our efforts to expand accessibility to the Maldives and provide connectivity for passengers traveling beyond Malé to the atolls,” said Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian. “With Air India’s strong network and our reach within the Maldives, this collaboration will play a key role in supporting tourism and business travel between our nations.”

The partnership aligns with both airlines’ goals to enhance regional cooperation and support tourism growth through stronger network integration, smoother connections, and improved customer experience.

AIR INDIA TO MOVE SELECT DOMESTIC FLIGHTS AT DELHI AIRPORT TO TERMINAL 2; AIR INDIA EXPRESS TO OPERATE ALL DOMESTIC FLIGHTS FROM TERMINAL 1

Relocation of flights effective 26 October 2025

Air India flights from Delhi T2 to be renumbered in four digits, prefixed with ‘1’ (AI1XXX)

Inter-terminal transfers available between T1, T2, T3

Free shuttle service between terminals every 10 minutes provided by DIAL

Bengaluru, 03 October 2025: Air India group today announced adjustments to its domestic operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport due to the ongoing expansion activities at Terminal 3 (T3) by Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) to augment international passenger capacity. The terminal enlargement works will reduce domestic capacity at T3, necessitating the relocation of certain domestic operations of Air India and Air India Express, effective 26 October 2025.

Air India will relocate 60 of its 180 daily domestic departures out of Delhi to the upgraded Terminal 2 (T2). Concurrently, Air India Express will move all its domestic operations to the newly renovated and upgraded Terminal 1 (T1).

All international flights of Air India and Air India Express will continue to operate from T3 Delhi Airport.

How one can identify Air India flights to/from T2

Air India’s domestic flights departing from or arriving at T2 have been renumbered in four digits, starting with ‘1’ (e.g., AI1737, AI1787). This clear distinction will help travellers to easily identify that their flight operates from/to T2.

Inter-terminal transfers for guests

Air India or Air India Express guests with connections, carrying boarding passes for their onward flights will be provided inter-terminal transfers between T1, T2, and T3. This service applies to connections between Air India flights, Air India Express flights, and on applicable codeshare connections.

Any through-checked baggage for these guests will be seamlessly transferred airside, eliminating the need to collect and recheck baggage during terminal transfers.

For all guests requiring transfers between T1, T2 and T3, Delhi International Airport provides a convenient shuttle service running every 10 minutes, ensuring quick and easy connectivity between the terminals. Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM) and those requiring special assistance can also opt for a comfortable buggy ride between T2 and T3.

Augmented guest support during transition

To ensure a smooth experience, Air India and Air India Express will be proactively notifying all guests who hold bookings for flights relocating to T2 and T1 (for Air India Express guests), via their registered contact details.

Passengers making new Air India bookings on AI1XXX-series flights (departing from T2) will be clearly notified that their flight operates from T2. Guests booking Air India Express domestic flights for travel from/to Delhi will also receive notifications.

Passengers whose bookings continue to operate to/from T3 will receive a reminder to check their terminal if they have connecting flights. Additionally, all passengers checking in online for AI1XXX-series flights will receive an additional reminder that their flight departs from T2.

Air India is also deploying additional resources at both terminals to assist customers and help them to navigate between the terminals, if required. Some of the airline’s ground staff, available to assist passengers with information, terminal transfers, etc. will wear special t-shirts for ease of recognition by passengers.

Guidance for passengers

All Air India and Air India Express guests are advised to update their contact details in their bookings with accurate information, to receive timely notifications. Guests are also advised to verify their flight details and terminal information prior to travel through the official websites of Air India and Air India Express, mobile apps, or the airlines’ 24×7 customer service channels.

Bengaluru, 30 September 2025: Air India and Airbus have inaugurated an advanced pilot training center at the Air India Aviation Training Academy in Gurugram, Haryana. This state-of-the-art facility will train more than 5,000 new pilots over the next decade to support the exponential growth of commercial aviation in India.

The 50:50 joint venture facility was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu in the presence of Christian Scherer, Chief Executive Officer, Commercial Aircraft, Airbus, Campbell Wilson, MD & CEO, Air India and other dignitaries from Tata Group, Air India and Airbus.

The new 12,000 sq metre center will be equipped with 10 Full Flight Simulators (FFSs), along with advanced classrooms and briefing rooms. The facility is designed to train pilots for the Airbus A320 and A350 aircraft families and its courses are approved by both the DGCA and EASA, ensuring that India’s pilot training meets the highest global standards. The facility is currently equipped with two Full Flight Simulators for Airbus A320 family aircraft. The remaining six A320 simulators and two A350 simulators will be installed progressively.

Jürgen Westermeier, President & Managing Director, Airbus India and South Asia, said: “We are very proud to partner with Air India and the Tata Group on this critical infrastructure project. The inauguration of the training center is a testament to our shared vision for the future of Indian aviation. This is more than a joint venture; it is a strategic investment in the future of the Indian aerospace industry itself. India is a strategic powerhouse for Airbus, and this state-of-the-art facility is a testament to our belief in its immense potential.”

Campbell Wilson, MD & CEO, Air India, said: “Air India is in an expansion mode with 570 new aircraft on order and the new pilot training centre at our Aviation Training Academy in Gurugram, a part of which is being executed with Airbus, will help train and upskill pilots who will fuel Air India’s ambition of becoming a world-class airline. This facility is a major step forward in our transformation journey and in making Air India and the Indian aviation industry more self-reliant. With our partners Airbus, we are playing our part in building the aviation infrastructure that India needs as one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.”

With this training center, Air India is consolidating its pilot training infrastructure from across the country into the Aviation Training Academy in Gurugram.

The Air India Aviation Training Academy is South Asia’s biggest aviation training academy. It was set up in 2024 and is currently training over 2,000 aviation professionals every day. The academy is expected to train over 50,000 aviation professionals including pilots, cabin crew, ground handling, engineering, and security staff, over the next few years. With world-class equipment and the latest technology, the training academy currently provides immersive industry-best training with safety as a core focus.

The aviation academy has best-in-class equipment for immersive training on Safety and Emergency Procedures (SEP) along with service training, grooming, voice, and accent training for cabin crew. Training for ground and security staff covers key functions such as departure control, customer service, airport security, and refreshers.

In addition, Air India is also in the process of setting up South Asia’s largest Flying Training Organisation (FTO) at Amravati in Maharashtra. The DGCA-licensed FTO at Amravati’s Belora airport will target to graduate 180 commercial pilots every year, helping fulfil demand for pilots as Air India expands its fleet.

A new Basic Maintenance Training Organization (BMTO) is also coming up near Air India’s new Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru that will be operational in FY27. The BMTO will offer a two-year integrated Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) program certified by DGCA followed by two years of practical on-job training at the MRO.
