NEW DELHI. The Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh has approved the grant of Miniratna Category-I status to Yantra India Limited (YIL), marking a major milestone in the company’s transformation into a profit-making defence public sector undertaking. Congratulating YIL, the Defence Minister expressed satisfaction over its rapid progress since corporatisation, highlighting improvements in turnover, indigenisation efforts and achievement of key performance benchmarks required for Miniratna status, which the company has attained within four years of its formation.

Yantra India Limited has recorded strong financial and operational growth, with sales increasing from ₹956.32 crore in the second half of FY 2021–22 to ₹3,108.79 crore in FY 2024–25. Its export performance has also shown a sharp rise, growing from zero exports in FY 2021–22 (H2) to ₹321.77 crore in FY 2024–25. The company’s diversified product portfolio includes carbon fibre composites, assemblies for medium and large calibre ammunition, armoured vehicles, artillery guns, main battle tanks, glass composites and aluminium alloys, strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

With the Miniratna Category-I status, YIL’s Board has been empowered to approve capital expenditure of up to ₹500 crore for new projects, modernisation and procurement of equipment without prior government approval, enabling faster decision-making and accelerated growth. Yantra India Limited was formed on October 1, 2021, following the corporatisation of the erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board into seven new defence public sector undertakings to enhance efficiency, autonomy and innovation. YIL is a Schedule ‘A’ DPSU under the Department of Defence Production, and this decision further reinforces the Government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by reducing import dependence and positioning India as a global hub for defence production.

NEW DELHI, India, January 28, 2026 – Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) today announced that TruAlt Bioenergy Limited will use Honeywell’s Ethanol-to-Jet (ETJ) process technology to produce 80,000 tons per annum (TPA) of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in India. The agreement marks a major step towards establishing one of India’s first grassroots, dedicated SAF production facilities utilizing ethanol as a feedstock.

Honeywell UOP’s Ethanol-to-Jet technology enables producers to convert ethanol derived from renewable sources into SAF, offering a cost-effective pathway to reduce carbon emissions of air travel. The process is easily integrated into existing ethanol production infrastructure and can also produce renewable diesel, helping reduce carbon emissions in the road transport sector.

The collaboration underscores Honeywell’s alignment with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by promoting domestic biofuel production.
Vijay Nirani, Managing Director of TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, said, “Our agreement with Honeywell is a defining step in TruAlt’s journey to help build India’s sustainable aviation fuel ecosystem. By leveraging Honeywell technology, we aim to create a scalable, ethanol-based SAF pathway that connects India’s farmers directly to the global aviation decarbonization agenda. Through this project, we are strengthening our conviction that India’s energy transition must be rooted in domestic feedstocks, strong industrial capability and inclusive economic value creation without external dependence. Additionally, it leverages India’s unique geographic and demographic advantages to progressively position the country as a major global hub for sustainable aviation fuel production.”

Honeywell currently offers solutions across a range of feedstocks to meet the rapidly growing demand for renewable fuels, including SAF. The company also offers modular renewable fuels technology that can be built off-site and quickly installed at refineries, lowering risk and accelerating start up compared to traditional methods.

He further added that Ministry of Coal has adopted a comprehensive five-pillar strategy under Mission Coking Coal, focusing on enhancing domestic output, expanding washing capacity, adopting advanced coke-making tech, accelerating block auctions, and promoting coal gasification for cleaner steelmaking.

He explained that, particularly in light of India’s net-zero goals, the Ministry of Coal is also exploring coal gasification as a cleaner, more advanced method of producing steel. In partnership with stakeholders from the public and private sectors, the Ministry is funding feasibility studies and pilot projects to incorporate coal-to-DRI technology. Coal gasification has the potential to revolutionise low-emission steel production in India with additional R&D, infrastructure, and support of all stakeholders.

India is witnessing a technological revolution because it is aiming to become Aatmanirbhar, and drones, or Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), are helping with this initiative and are at the forefront and leading a futuristic transformation by impacting various industries like construction, agriculture, mining, and healthcare. A report by Nibrus Technologies Private Limited mentions the Indian drone market is all set to explode and, as per the projections, from 10,083 units in 2024 the market has increased to 61,393 units in 2029, thus having a considerable 44.2% CAGR.

With all these transformed business landscapes, one of the most integral parts is the Surveyaan V1, a drone designed with small and medium-sized surveying and consulting firms in mind. Affordable and DGCA-certified, a multi-purpose drone predestined for applications ranging from land surveys to monitoring construction site activity has truly changed the game in a few industries.

The important takeaways from the report show just how transformational the impact has been with the Surveyaan V1:

Construction: It accelerates the surveying process, giving detailed 2D and 3D models, which conserve time and cut down costs. It provides better tracking of the timelines and budget.

Mining: Utilizing high-resolution mapping and real-time data, Surveyaan V1 improves site surveillance to support stockpile management without significant operational impact, while its robust features, examples include wind resistance and automatic returns, improve safety and efficiency.

Agriculture: Drones provide significant advantages in precision farming by surveying crop health and soil conditions. For instance, with the large area coverage of the Surveyaan V1, the critical information delivered is useful in optimizing yield maximization as well as ensuring compliance.

The Indian government is supporting this technological leap and has dedicated Rs 57 crore for the development of drones under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme in the interim budget of 2024, with a growth rate of 72% from that of last year.

This will take India one step closer to being a drone hub, and innovations like the Surveyaan V1 may prove crucial to this vision of Atmanirhbhar Bharat. The continued support of the Indian government along with increasing investments holds promise for a brighter future of the drones, marking a new dawn in India’s innovation and operational excellence.
