‘Swachhata Swabhiman’ awards presented by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant to groups taking up cleanliness activities voluntarily 

The ‘Swachhata Swabhiman’ Award ceremony for the Financial Year 2023-24 and first quarter of FY2024-25 was held at Rourkela Club on 9th August 2024. Mr. P K Swain, CGM (TA & CSR) presided over the function as Chief guest. Present on the occasion were Mr. T G Kanekar, GM In-Charge (Town Services), Mr. Amar Kumar Mohanty, GM (Projects & MOD), Mr. Nilamani Mohapatra, GM (SMS-1), Mr. B K Behera, DGM (IED), and other Senior Officers of the Plant.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Swain congratulated the winners of the Swachhata Swabhiman scheme and appreciated the hard work of each team involved in the cleanliness of the city voluntarily. Referring to the ‘Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat mission’ Mr. Swain urged all to encourage others to join the mission to keep the city clean, green and healthy.

The Champions prize for the FY23-24 was won by the Baikunth Ghat group led by Captain Niranjan Dhal, Senior Technician (Public Relations). The group received Rs. 50,000/- and a trophy. Captain Kedar Nath Parida & Group of Sector-9 was the winner team of 1st quarter of FY2024-25 and was awarded with Rs. 30,000 and a trophy. The Runners-Up prize comprising Rs. 25,000/- and a trophy was won by Captain Nirmala Barik and group of Abhirampalli Basti. Notably, all the members of this group comprise of female members. The second Runners-up prize of Rs.20,000/- and a trophy was bagged by Captain Pappu Behera and team of Sec-8 Jubilee Park.

Earlier the programme commenced with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp.  During the programme a Swachhata Dance was staged by Mr. Bapi Pallai and troupe.  Dr. Deepa Lavangare, Deputy CMO (TE – Public Health) welcomed the gathering, while Mr. Anil Mallick, MOMT (SSM) coordinated the function. Mr. Rasananda Pradhan, JO (TE-Public Health) delivered the formal vote of thanks.

Notably the ‘Swachhata Swabhiman’ award has been instituted by RSP to motivate residents of Rourkela Steel Township to participate in the cleanliness drive by adopting a particular area of the sectors preferably their own sector, including markets areas, slums, open spaces, lanes and quarters. 10 group with 120 members are regularly carrying out cleanliness activities under this scheme.
