A Sustainable Organic Farming workshop was organized under Waste to Wealth programme undertaken by CSR Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant and National Institute of Technology, Rourkela at the Institute for Peripheral Development, from 11th to 13th July 2024. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR) with additional charge of ED (Projects) presided over the concluding session of the training programme and handed over the completion certificates. 50 women farmers from Jagda, Jamsera Model Steel Village and Jhirpani Resettlement Colony of Bisra Block, Sonaparbat of Lathikata Block and Suajore and Koilsutta of Nuagaon Block took part in this 3 days long programme.
While addressing the gathering Mr. Misra encouraged the villagers to make the best use of the training programme. He urged all to share the key learning of organic farming with the others to ensure good health and maintain environmental balance including the soil and water health.
The areas covered under this training workshop were the Basic of Organic Farming; Importance of Organic Farming and need of the hour; Organic way of Mushroom Cultivation; Practical training for farmers on preparation of Vermicompost, Organic Manures and Biopesticides and Soil Health Management.
Resource persons for this course comprised Professors and Researchers from National Institute of Technology Rourkela; KVK Scientists; and practitioners who are working in the area of organic farming.
The aim of the program was to develop amongst the farmers an understanding on organic farming and use of organic manure for building long term framework for planning and execution of programs for infusion of the process of organic farming in Indian agrarian practices.
Ms. Munmun Mittra, GM (CSR) delivered the introductory speech and briefed about various CSR Initiatives undertaken by RSP for enhancing the earnings as well as quality of life of the peripheral populace. Mr. T B Toppo, AGM (CSR) welcomed the gathering, while Mr. Ramchandra Pradhan, Associate Dean (NIT- Rourkela) proposed a formal vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Mr. G K Nehru of NIT, Rourkela.
