The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has been extending crucial support to the education of students from its periphery areas through its Scholarship Scheme, which was launched in 2007-08. Under this initiative, students pursuing Higher Secondary and Secondary education receive Rs. 12,000 per year, while those in Primary education are provided Rs. 10,800 annually.
The scheme has been playing a significant role in empowering students from underprivileged backgrounds by reducing their financial burden and enabling them to pursue their studies without hindrance. Hundreds of students from nearby schools have benefitted from this initiative over the years.
Expressing her gratitude, Pragyasini Bariha, a Class 7 student of Dalposh UP School, said that the RSP scholarship had been a lifeline for her family. It not only helped her come out of the clutches of poverty but also gave her the confidence to continue her education without being a burden on her parents. “The financial support has been very useful for buying books and other essential items needed for my studies. It has made me feel secure about my education and motivated me to do better in life,” she adds with a smile.
The scholarship programme is one of the many initiatives through which RSP continues to contribute towards improving the quality of life of the communities around its operational areas, while nurturing the future generation through education.
