SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has undertaken the important job of de-silting of the Lagoon along with repair and replacement of damaged sluice gates to strengthen its water management system. The work is currently in progress and is being executed under the supervision of the Water Management Department of RSP.
The de-silting of the lagoon will significantly help in maintaining the quality of effluent water being discharged from the plant. Furthermore, the operation of the revamped sluice gates, whenever required, will help in preventing flooding of the plant premises during heavy monsoon rainfall, thereby enhancing operational safety and preparedness.
The work order has been placed on M/s NBCC at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.75 Crores. The major scope of the project includes removal of 1,27,500 cubic metres of sludge, cleaning and removal of vegetation over an area of 80,000 square metres and replacement of three damaged sluice gates.
