Three newly inducted 60-ton capacity BOBSN wagons were inaugurated at the Traffic & Raw Materials (T&RM) Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) by Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), on 23rd December, 2025. The wagons were inaugurated in the presence of Mr. S. S. Roychoudhury, CGM (Maintenance), Mr. D. K. Palo, CGM (Mechanical), and Mr. Kaushik Sunyani, CGM (T&RM), along with several senior officers and a large number of employees from T&RM and associated departments.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Palai urged the collective to continue their focused efforts towards strengthening internal logistics and enhancing operational efficiency, which play a critical role in supporting the plant’s production performance.
It is noteworthy that RSP operates a fleet of around 500 internal rolling stock wagons for the transportation of finished and semi-finished products, by-products, and raw materials essential for the steelmaking process. These wagons are maintained by the Carriage & Wagon Section of the T&RM Department. Of the total fleet, 106 wagons are of the BOBSN (HB) type.
To further augment its material handling capacity under the AMR Scheme, RSP has placed an order on M/s SAIL Growth Works (SGW), Kulti, for the supply of 39 numbers of 60-ton capacity BOBSN wagons. The wagons inaugurated are the first three units of this consignment. The cost of each BOBSN wagon is approximately Rs. 61.8 lakh, while the total investment for all 39 wagons amounts to Rs. 2,410.26 lakh.
Notably, BOBSN wagons are used for the internal transportation of various in-process materials such as MBC, PHC, hard coke, breeze coke, nut coke, coal, sinter, mill scale, boiler coal, LD fines, (-30) limestone, etc., thereby supporting uninterrupted production operations at RSP.
