The Rourkela Steel Plant Open School Football Tournament organized by the Sports Cell of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) concluded on 20th September, 2024. Mr. P K Swain, CGM In-Charge (TA & CSR) graced the concluding function as Chief Guest while Mr. B K Jojo, CGM (Town Engineering & Horticulture) was the Guest of Honour. The dignitaries presented trophies to the winning teams. Mr. T G Kanekar, GM In-charge (TS), Mr. Aseem Sabat, GM(TS-Education), Mr. B Mallik, GM (CSR), Mr. J.P.Mishra, GM, (P & HS, SW) and other senior officers and staff, representatives of Schools and sports lovers were also present on the occasion.
Congratulating the winner as well as all the participating teams for showcasing best sportsmanship and team spirit, Mr. Swain said, “The spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that we have witnessed throughout this tournament has been truly heartening.
In the Senior Boys category, IG Memorial School, Rourkela became the winners by defeating Deepika EM School, Rourkela 2-0. In Junior Group of Boys, team from Hamirpur High School emerged as champions after beating Madhusudan Sikhya Sadan by 2-0 margin. Similarly, in the Girls’ category, Kalyani Ray Higher Secondary School became the winners defeating Carmel School by 3-0 goals.
Mr. T G Kanekar welcomed the gathering while Mr. Raghu Nandan Padhee, Deputy Manager, Sports proposed a formal vote of thanks. Mr.Anil Mallick, of Silicon Steel Mill anchored the programme.
At the end of the ceremony the Chief Guest of the event lowered the Sports Flag and declared the tournament closed. It may be noted that in all 38 teams from different schools of the township participated in the event of which 11 team were in the Boy’s senior category, 14 in Boy’s junior category and 04 in Girl’s category.
