“Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in one of the best performing Plants of the country and we have plans to increase its capacity to 9.5 Million Tons per Annum (MTPA) very soon. Whatever assistance required in this direction will be extended,” said Shri H D Kumaraswamy, Hon’ble Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries, Govt of India while addressing the media persons at Rourkela Airport in 19th November 2025. Shri H D Kumaraswamy was accompanied on the dais by Shri Jual Oram, Hon’ble Union Minister of Tribal Welfare, Shri Durga Charan Tanty, Hon’ble MLA, Raghunathpalli, Shri Amarendu Prakash, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), SAIL and Shri Alok Verma, Director In-Charge (DIC) RSP with additional charge of DIC, BSL.

Speaking about the glorious history of RSP, Shri Kumarswamy said, “The Steel Plant that commenced operations in 1959 has enhanced its capacity from time to time. With the upcoming phase of expansion, it will contribute significantly in realising the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to enhance the steel production capacity of the country to 300 MTPA.” Answering to the queries related to the land issues coming up in the expansion plan, he said that a rehabilitation package is being worked out and the issues will be sorted in a cordial environment with the help of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha Shri Mohan Charan Majhi.
Shri Kumarswamy along Shri Jual Oram, Shri Amarendu Prakash, and Shri Alok Verma left for Bhubneswar soon after the Media Meet.
Earlier in the morning, Shri Kumarswamy along with other dignitaries planted a sapling in the premises of Rourkela House. A Guard of Honour was presented to him at Rourkela House by the CISF Unit of RSP. He also paid a short visit to Ispat General Hospital and took stock of the health care facilities extended in the hospital.
On 18th evening, Shri Kumarswamy held a meeting with the senior officers of RSP at Rourkela House and discussed about various aspects of function of RSP. He also praised the achievements of RSP in recent years.
