India’s Mirabai Chanu wins gold at World Weightlifting Championships

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has once again made India proud by winning gold at World Weightlifting Championship, held in Anaheim, USA. Chanu has created a new world record of 194kg - 85kg snatch and 109kg clean-and-jerk - to lift gold at the World Weightlifting Championships.

With this win, she has become the second Indian weightlifter after Karnam Malleswari to win gold. For the same event, Thailand's Sukcharoen Thunya won the silver medal with a total lift of 193, while Segura Ana Iris bagged bronze with 182kg.

India win ODI series against Australia

India have clinched the ongoing five-match ODI series against Australia by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead. India beat the visitors by 5 wickets in the third ODI at Indore on Sunday. Chasing 294 for a win, India overhauled the target with 13 balls to spare in front of a packed Holkar stadium at Indore. Openers Rohit Sharma made 71 and Ajikya Rahane contributed 70 to set the platform for the win with their 131-run partnership while Hardik Pandya steered the side to victory with his crucial 78 run knock off 72 balls. 

Earlier, Australian opener Aaron Finch's 124 run innings helped the visitors to score 293 for six in stipulated 50 overs. India had won the first and second encounters played at Chennai and Kolkata by convincing margins.

Goswami, who is the currently the leading wicket taker in one-day international cricket with 195 scalps to her name, said that the Team India captain is phenominal and lauded him for leading from the front. "He is a phenomenal cricketer. He is the best cricketer in the world. The way he is playing and leading from the front is fantastic," said the all-rounder in India Today's Mind Rocks Delhi event.
