Amit Shah, Smriti Irani & Ahmed Patel win Gujarat RS polls

BJP National President Amit Shah, Union Minister for Textile and Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani and Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel have won the Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat. After much drama overnight in the counting for the three Rajya Sabha seat, Amit Shah received 46 votes, Smriti Irani also secured 46 votes while Ahmed Patel got 44 votes.

Attack on Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat was pre planned: Congress

Congress alleged that the attack on its vice president Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat yesterday was pre planned. Briefing media senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said it was the responsibility of the state government to ensure the safety and security of Gandhi.

Condemning the incident, Azad said such attacks should not take place in a civilized society. Rahul Gandhi's car was pelted with stones during his visit to the flood-affected Dhanera in Gujarat but he escaped unhurt. Meanwhile, Gandhi has also reacted to the attack on him and alleged it is part of the BJP and RSS politics. 

National Human Rights Commission

NHRC issues notice to Kerala Government over political killings in state

National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has issued notice to Kerala Government over spate of murderous assaults on political party workers in Kerala. The Commission has asked the State Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to take effective steps to stop them. NHRC has sought a report on the issue within four weeks. 

In a statement NHRC said, the Commission has observed that the crucial point is whenever such incidents happen, a precious human life is lost. The brutal killings of the party workers are indicative of growing rivalry among the workers of different parties and poor state of law and order situation in the State. 

123rd Amendment Bill

Rajya Sabha passes Constitution (123rd Amendment) Bill, 2017 with amendments

The Rajya Sabha passed the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-third Amendment) Bill, 2017 with amendments. The bill seeks to create a new commission with constitutional status for the OBCs at par with the National Commissions for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Replying to the discussion, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot allayed Members’ concern that the bill will encroach upon the rights of the states. He said, there is no attempt to reduce the rights of states and attack the federal structure.

Nitish Kumar Secured Majority

In Bihar assembly, CM Nitish Kumar secured majority, got 131 votes

In Bihar, the political equation has been changed today. Bharatiya Janata Party and Janta Dal United have proved majority in the assembly. The majority figure in the 243-member assembly is 122, although 131 votes in favor of Nitish. On 27th July, BJP leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi had claimed that they have support of 132 MLAs, including 71 JDU, 53 BJP, 2 RLSP, 2 LJP, 1 HAM and three independents.

On the other hand, the single big party in Bihar Rashtriya Janata Dal, it was claimed that the support of RJD's 80, Congress 27, CPI-ML 2 and some independents have got support. RJD is deciding to go Supreme Court.
