A Massive road safety campaign was organised at various strategic locations of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) from 19th to 24th June 2024. The purpose was to raise awareness among the stakeholders of RSP about road safety. Around 500 employees including executives and contract workers of Special Plate Plant, Blast Furnaces, Steel Melting Shop-1, Energy Management Department and Traffic and Raw Material Department participated in the Campaign. Led by Chief General Managers, HODs of respective Departments, and representatives from the Safety Engineering Department, the participants formed long human chains to spread road safety messages.
The targeted locations included places near SMS-1 ramp, Sanskar Gate and ED (Works) Chowk. These campaigns were organised half an hour before and after 9.00 AM to maximise the impact and effectiveness, considering the high commuter traffic during these times.
The campaigns focused on safe driving practices such as observing speed limits, avoiding red light violations and dangerous overtaking, and using protective equipment like helmets. Placards and banners with relevant messages and slogans were displayed to emphasize the importance of road safety. The main objective of the campaigns was to promote safety habits and nurture a strong safety culture within the organization. It aimed to raise awareness among commuters and promote a culture of responsibility and adherence to road safety guidelines
