Delivering the convocation address, Justice Ashok Bhushan, Chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), said the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code has evolved significantly over the past decade, with major legal and operational issues now settled through landmark judicial pronouncements. He described the period from 2016 to 2021 as the “era of establishment” and the current phase as the “era of refinement,” noting that the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Amendment Act, 2026, reflects the legislation’s continued evolution. Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal, President of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), in his keynote address, emphasized the need for stronger judicial and institutional coordination to ensure timely insolvency resolutions and advocated the adoption of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency to enhance India’s attractiveness as a global restructuring destination.

Addressing the conference, Ministry of Corporate Affairs Secretary Deepti Gaur Mukerjee described the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code as a transformative reform that has reshaped India’s financial and corporate ecosystem. She highlighted that nearly ₹4 lakh crore has been recovered through resolution processes, with creditors realizing around 170 percent of liquidation value, while more than 32,000 cases were settled before formal admission, preserving credit worth nearly ₹14 lakh crore. Referring to the recently enacted Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Amendment Act, 2026, she said the reform would further strengthen the insolvency framework and support the national vision of building a developed India under Viksit Bharat.

Baoshuan at The Oberoi New Delhi was named Best Chinese Restaurant of the Year, while Izumi, Goa, won Best Japanese Restaurant of the Year. Seefah, Mumbai, was recognised as Best Asian Restaurant of the Year.

In the Indian restaurant categories, Chor Bizarre, Delhi, was named Best Indian Restaurant of the Year for North Indian cuisine, while Karavalli, Bengaluru, won Best Indian Restaurant of the Year for South Indian cuisine. Ethnic Table, Dimapur, was recognised as Best Indian Restaurant of the Year in the Regional category, and Sienna, Kolkata, was named Best Indian Restaurant of the Year in the Modern category.

Avartana at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai, was named Most Innovative Indian Restaurant of the Year.

Americano, Mumbai, was named Best Italian Restaurant of the Year, while The Table, Mumbai, won Best European Restaurant of the Year. Paris My Love, Delhi, won Best Bakery & Patisserie of the Year, and The Qube at The Leela Palace, New Delhi was named Best All-Day Dining Restaurant of the Year.

The awards also honoured India’s much-loved food institutions. Aminia, Kolkata, was named Historic Restaurant of India, while Bukhara at ITC Maurya, Delhi, received the honour of Legendary Restaurant of India.

According to an order issued on June 11, 2026, the Competent Authority has approved reducing the board strength of both central public sector enterprises by 50 per cent, bringing the number of directors down from 16 to 8.

As part of the restructuring, the existing post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) in both companies has been redesignated as Managing Director (MD) with immediate effect.

The order further stipulates that the Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC will serve as the Non-Executive Chairperson of both THDCIL and NEEPCO. The arrangement comes into force immediately.

In another key decision, the Ministry has discontinued the prevailing additional-charge mechanism for the top executive position in the two companies. Future appointments to the post of Managing Director will be made in accordance with established government procedures through the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) and with the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

The move is aimed at streamlining corporate governance, strengthening oversight, and aligning the management structure of the two NTPC subsidiaries with the government’s broader public sector reforms agenda.

THDCIL and NEEPCO are among the country’s prominent hydropower and power generation public sector undertakings operating under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power. ( NEWS MANTRA)
