  • Fight against dowry; Yogi to lunch mass marriage policy for poverty-stricken girls

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath on Sunday discouraged the practice of dowry, up with mass marriage policy for poor girls and announced a financial assistance of RS 35,000 for every marriage.

    He also said to come up with rehabilitation centre for the disabled in Gorakhpur's BRD Hospital campus. Minimum 100 disabled persons will be given motorised tricycle.

    Around 4,100 differently-abled persons were provided tricycles and other assisting devices by Yogi and Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot.

    “A mass marriage policy concept will be there for unprivileged girls with the financial assistance of RS 35,000 for every marriage,” said Yogi. This is launched to discourage dowry system in the marriages. Talking about physically-challenged persons, he mentioned that they are highly talented and should be used in the nation’s interest.

    While providing motorised tricycles to differently-abled, he said "They are not any burden since childhood. We have raised the 3 percent reservation to 4 percent to the differently-abled in jobs. Our government has also increased their monthly pension from Rs 300 to Rs 500."
