New Delhi: Traffic and transportation infrastructure planning body has approved 5 crucial projects which will tremendously ease traffic movement in the city.
Total numbers of projects which have gotten approval are 10. One of the 5 crucial projects is to make Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg signal free. The others are corridor enhancement between Modi Mill flyover and IIT Delhi, extension of Ashram flyover till Delhi Noida Direct (DND) flyover. The approval was received in a meeting chaired by Anil Baijal, the LG of Delhi.
Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg’s construction would consist of many underpasses on these roads, this would also come under the Pragati Maidan redevelopment plan. A proposal for a tunnel connecting Ring Road and Mathura Road has also gotten permission.
In March ASI had denied permission to PWD for building an underpass near Old Fort due to the city conservation rules, which states that no construction is to take place in the 100-metre periphery of a protected monument. After the road block the PWD reworked the whole plan and now 2 underpasses will be constructed. PWD officials said that the tenders for these projects would be floated soon. The 800-crore project will be mostly funded by the centre.
The corridor enhancement project between IIT Delhi and Modi Mill flyover is necessary for easy movement of traffic, which generally is going to the airport via Outer Ring Road. As per the blueprint, PWD will construct 2 half-flyovers right next to the existing ones at Savitri Cinema in GKII and Kalkaji.
