COMMON MINIMUM PROGRAMME OF MVA

The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi on Thursday promised to uphold the secular values as enshrined in the Constitution. “secular” appears twice in the preamble of the CMP itself. The document was released just hours before Sena President Uddhav Thackeray is sworn in as the chief minister of Maharashtra.

Meanwhile the Enforcement Directorate today expedited its investigation in the Adarsh scam, in which senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan is an accused. In the light of the latest developments, the swearing-in of Chavan at today’s ceremony has been put on hold.

As measures for the welfare of farmers in the state, the CMP aims to provide immediate assistance to those who are suffering due to premature rains and floods and grant immediate loan waiver to them. The crop insurance scheme will be revised to ensure immediate compensation to farmers who have lost crops and adequate steps will be taken to initiate construction of sustainable water supply system for drought affected areas.

To tackle the issue of unemployment, the process of filling all the vacant posts in the state government shall be initiated immediately. A fellowship shall be provided for educated unemployed youth. A law shall be enacted to ensure 80 percent reservation in jobs for local youth.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has congratulated Uddhav Thackeray over phone ahead of his oath ceremony as Maharashtra chief minister today. Akhilesh was invited to attend the ceremony. However, he will not be attending the event in Mumbai.

Uddhav Thackeray will be the eighth person to take oath as Maharashtra CM while not being a legislator. Congress leaders AR Antulay, Vasantdada Patil, Shivajirao Nilangekar-Patil, Shankarrao Chavan, Sushilkumar Shinde and Prithviraj Chavan are among the leaders who were not members of any of the state legislature Houses when they occupied the top post.
