New Delhi: Afghanistan intelligence has blamed the Taliban – allied Haqqani network for the truck bombing in Kabul in the Wazir Akbar Khan area which left 90 dead and over 350 injured. It has also accused Pakistani security services for helping The Haqqani network in carrying out the blast. The Haqqani network is an Afghan guerilla insurgent group using asymmetric warfare to fight against US-led NATO forces and the government of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has cancelled friendly matches including initially agreed terms of mutual cricketing relationship with Pakistan, post the blast. While Taliban and the Islamic State have carried out many attacks in Afghanistan the past , no group has till now claimed any responsibility for the Wednesday attack. On Wednesday, a massive suicide truck exploded in the Wazir Akbar Khan area- one of the most secure regions in the country which hosted various embassies and also the presidential palace. An attack in theis region signifies a lot about how the Ashraf Ghani government is losing stock of the situation. Condemning the attack , Ghani said in a statement, “The terrorists, even in the holy month of Ramadan, the month of goodness, blessing and prayer, are not stopping the killing of our innocent people.”
