Srinagar: Three terrorist, who are believed to have murdered police constable Mohammad Saleem Sham in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, were killed in an encounter by security forces in Khudwani village of the district on Sunday. Muawiya, a Pakistani, and locals, Suhail Ahmad Dar and Mudassar alias Rehaan were identified as the “prime accused” in the abduction and murder of Policeman Mohd Saleem Shah on Saturday, a police spokesman said.
Killed terrorist were part of a joint group of militant outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). They were trapped after a cordon-and-search operation by Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF in Khudwani early on Sunday morning, according to officials. As the security forces advanced, the hiding militants opened fire, leading to a brief encounter in which the three were killed, the spokesman said.
The gunfight started after a joint unit of counter terrorist security grid launched a cordon and search operation at Wani Mohalla Khudwani. Police said, the security forces managed to pin point the location of the terrorists but the operation to flush them out was delayed due to presence of some civilians in the house.
At least four persons were injured in clashes between stone-pelters and security forces near the encounter site. a mob started pelting stones at the security forces engaged in the operation. Four persons received pellet or bullet injuries in the action by security forces against the stone-pelters, the police official said.
Shah’s body was found from a nursery near Redwani Payeen village on Saturday, a day after he was abducted from his home in Mutalhama in Kulgam. Terrorists had “tortured” Shah
