In his address, Shri Atul Sobti underscored the indispensable role of leadership in catalyzing excellence, innovation, and transformation within CPSEs. He emphasized that leadership in the public sector necessitates leaders to balance business performance with public purpose, operational efficiency with stakeholder expectations, and organizational priorities with larger national objectives.

Shri Sanjai Kumar, an alumnus of AGLP, shared his experience of the program and reflected on how the learning, peer interactions and global exposure had enriched his leadership perspective. He highlighted the program’s value in broadening strategic thinking, providing a wider understanding of global business practices.

AGLP 2.0 is designed as an immersive three-week leadership journey, comprising intensive workshops at IIM Calcutta and SCOPE, New Delhi, followed by an International Industry Study Tour. The program reflects SCOPE’s continued endeavour to strengthen the leadership pipeline of CPSEs and develop leaders who are future-ready, globally oriented and aligned with the larger vision of India’s public sector transformation.

Mr. Tarun Misra, Executive Director (HR), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. B. R. Palai, Executive Director (Works), and Mr. M. P. Singh, Executive Director (Mines), were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the newly inducted trainees, Mr. Tarun Mishra welcomed them to RSP and highlighted the plant’s township and work environment. He stated that Rourkela Steel Plant has one of the best townships and is among the best places to work.

Mr. B. R. Palai, Executive Director (Works), emphasised the importance of adopting a multiskilling work culture and urged them to focus on their career roadmap and work systematically towards achieving their professional goals.

Mr. M. P. Singh, Executive Director (Mines),  encouraged the trainees to make the most of the learning and professional opportunities available within the organisation.

The programme provided the trainees with an overview of the organisation, its work culture and the opportunities available for professional growth at SAIL, RSP. It is worth mentioning that the central induction of all the Management Trainees (Technical) joining SAIL was carried out at   Bhilai Steel Plant. Thereafter, the trainees have been posted to different units for local induction.

The distribution was carried out under the project “Waste to Wealth: Sustainable and Innovative Organic Farming Techniques especially for Women Farmers of the Peripheral Areas of RSP.” The beneficiaries were provided the materials to enable them to start vermicompost preparation and make productive use of organic waste in their own farms.

The initiative seeks to encourage the adoption of organic farming practices and promote the conversion of biodegradable waste into nutrient-rich manure. Besides supporting environment-friendly agriculture, vermicomposting can help farmers reduce their dependence on external inputs and improve the availability of organic manure for cultivation.

Notably, an MoU was signed between SAIL-RSP and NIT Rourkela on 8th October 2025 for a period of three years for implementation of the project. The project covers training and demonstration for 600 local farmers from four revenue blocks — Lathikata, Nuagaon, Bisra and Kuarmunda — on organic farming techniques, with special emphasis on women farmers. The project also envisages demonstration of techniques such as vermicomposting, preparation and use of bio-fertilisers and bio-pesticides, and seed treatment, through a third party. Free synthetic bags for vermicompost preparation are to be distributed to each trained farmer.

The newly unveiled installation features a fully weatherproof, 20-meter-long scale model of the ship situated in the open-air space outside the airport terminal building. The model is fully designed, installed, and maintained by GRSE. The non-commercial display serves as a striking landmark for millions of passengers, symbolizing “Atmanirbharta” and a proud collaboration between AAI and GRSE while bringing indigenous naval technology prowess of the country closer to the public eye.

The initiative reflects the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ and underscores the transformative power of ‘Atmanirbharta’ (Self-Reliance) in warship building. Placed at one of Eastern India’s busiest international gateways, the exhibit highlights the country’s technological capabilities and rapid strides in defense manufacturing to domestic and global travelers alike.

The scale model represents the Project 17A (Himgiri Class) Advanced Guided-Missile Frigate programme, one of India’s most ambitious indigenous warship-building initiatives. Designed for multi-mission operations, including anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, these next-generation stealth frigates incorporate advanced weapons, sensors and survivability features. Measuring 149 metres in length and displacing approximately 6,670 tonnes, the warships are powered by a Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion system and represent a generational leap in indigenous warship design, stealth, firepower, automation and combat capability.

GRSE has played a pivotal role in the successful execution of Project 17A. The first GRSE-built frigate, Himgiri, was delivered to the Indian Navy on 31 July 2025, while the second frigate, Dunagiri, was delivered on 30 March 2026 and subsequently commissioned into service by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 21 June 2026. The third and final frigate of the class being built by GRSE, Vindhyagiri, is currently at an advanced stage of construction. These technologically advanced warships reflect India’s growing expertise in indigenous warship design and construction and stand as powerful symbols of self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

As a Premier Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) operating from Kolkata since 1960, GRSE holds the unique distinction of being the only Indian shipyard to have built and delivered the highest number of warships to the nation’s armed forces. To date, the shipyard has built and delivered 118 warships, including 80 warships for the Indian Navy, a record unmatched by any shipyard in the country. GRSE is currently constructing multiple advanced platforms, including one Project 17A Advanced Frigate, four Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW-SWCs), four Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs), and several commercial and export vessels.
