NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan,’ a 100-week nationwide campaign aimed at mobilizing millions of young citizens against substance abuse. Addressing over one crore youth connected across more than 28,000 locations via video conference, the Prime Minister emphasized that achieving a developed India requires a physically fit, mentally robust, and self-confident younger generation free from destructive habits. Evolving from a pilot project initially introduced in Kashi with the support of over 125 spiritual and non-governmental organizations under the Kashi Declaration, the movement will feature dedicated activities every Sunday—including sports events, cultural programs, and meditation sessions—to drive mass public participation toward building a drug-free nation.

Highlighting that substance abuse destroys careers, weakens family structures, and undermines national progress, PM Modi urged the country’s youth to champion anti-drug awareness across their schools, colleges, and communities. He called on parents and society to eliminate the social stigma surrounding addiction, encouraging families to maintain open communication and seek timely medical rehabilitation rather than hiding substance abuse due to misplaced prestige concerns. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance approach, the Prime Minister assured that law enforcement will continue its relentless nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and smuggling networks to safeguard India’s future.

New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has launched a large-scale ecological restoration programme across the Delhi Ridge under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. As part of the initiative, the authority aims to plant 23 lakh indigenous saplings across the national capital under the 70 Lakh Plantation Mission. To restore the Ridge’s natural ecosystem, around 16,240 invasive trees and shrubs are being removed, while nearly one lakh indigenous trees and 81,700 native shrubs will be planted. The objective is to revive the original structure, biodiversity and ecological functions of the Ridge forests rather than merely increasing Delhi’s green cover.

The plantation drive will continue throughout the ongoing planting season as the DDA works towards achieving its ambitious plantation target. To make the campaign a people’s movement, the authority has partnered with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), educational institutions, religious organisations, corporate bodies and volunteer groups. Through these collaborations, the DDA aims to encourage greater public participation and strengthen community involvement in greening and conserving Delhi’s environment.
