SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) registered best ever Blast Furnace Productivity of 2.488 tonnes of hot metal per cubic meter per day (THM/M3/Day) with two furnaces in operation surpassing the previous high of 2.384 THM/M3/Day set in the previous month i.e. July 2024. The two operational furnaces, namely Blast Furnace-I (BF-1) and Blast Furnace-V (BF-5) also individually recorded their best ever productivity of 2.114 THM/M3/Day and 2.653 THM/M3/Day respectively in August, 2024. Notably, BF-5 improved upon its previous best of 2.516 THM/M3/Day achieved in the preceding month i.e. July 2024.
RSP also clocked best Coke Rate of 378 Kgs per Ton of Hot Metal (KG/THM) with two furnaces in operation. The Coal to Hot Metal ratio was also the best ever 0.885 in August, 2024 against the previous best of 0.90 achieved in November, 2020. It is noteworthy that RSP has been strategically running two Blast Furnaces to achieve the set targets with a broader mission of cost optimization and better Techno-economics. The trends have been encouraging with the collective taking up the challenge.
BF-1 and BF-5 also registered their respective best April to August performances producing 395510 tonnes and 1238543 Tonnes. The two furnaces combinedly produced 13238 tonnes and 13256 tonnes on 14th and 15th August,2024 to clock records on consecutive days setting new benchmarks. RSP also became the 1st unit of SAIL to introduce Biochar Injection in Blast Furnace #1, in collaboration with RDCIS in August, 2024 in a significant advancement toward Reducing Carbon footprint in steel production.
