The National Fire Services Week observations concluded at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) with an Award ceremony held on 19th May, 2025. Mr. Biswa Ranjan Palai, ED (Works), RSP was the Chief Guest at the concluding ceremony held at Gopabandhu Auditorium. Mr M P Singh, ED (Mines), Mr. Sudip Palchowdhury, ED (Projects), Dr. J K Acharya, CMO In-charge (M&HS) and Ms. Asha Kartha, CGM (Safety & Fire Services) shared the dais. Present on the occasion were several CGMs, Senior Officers and employees of the plant, students and their guardians.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Palai congratulated the winners of the various events conducted to mark the week. Highlighting this year’s theme, “Unite to Ignite – A Fire Safe India,” he stressed the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the goal of ‘Zero Harm’. He added that fire safety should not be confined to just a week but practiced throughout the year.
The dignitaries handed over the awards to the winners of spot painting for school children of the township as well as various other competitions held for employees and contract labour like Fire Mock Drill, Swimming for both Fire Services Department and employees in general, athletics, volley ball, essay, slogan and house-keeping. The judges and those who helped in coordinating the week long activities were also felicitated. The employees of the department who donated 10 units of blood at the Blood Donation camp organised to mark the week were also mentioned and applauded.
The programme commenced with the rendition of National Anthem, which was followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries. During the function an inspirational Fire Service song was displayed and a brief report on the week long activities was presented for the knowledge of all present at the function. At the outset Ms. Asha Kartha welcomed the gathering. Mr. J B Patnaik, GM (Fire Services) proposed a formal vote of thanks while Mr. Mohit Singh, Assistant Manager (Fire Services), Mr. Shabaz Asif Thakor and Mr. Subhabrata Sahoo, both Deputy Mangers (Fire Services) coordinated the programme.
