In yet another step taken to protect the environment by reducing CO2 emissions, SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant is providing EV vehicles for use by offices of the Plant’s Chief General Managers, replacing the petrol-driven vehicles being used for their official day to day travel. The first lot of 22 EV vehicles of make TATA, model TIGOR were handed over to Shri Anirban Dasgupta, Director I/c Bhilai Steel Plant by Shri Nitul Sharma, Zonal Manager (Tata Motors) at an informal function in Township Garage on 12th May 2023. As many as 42 EV vehicles are being taken on lease by SAIL-BSP for use by offices of CGMs of Bhilai Steel Plant, making this one of the largest such acquisitions by any PSU.
To reduce these emissions, BSP management decided to distribute 42 numbers of electric vehicles to offices of all CGMs, replacing petrol driven vehicles currently being used. On an average, a medium sized EV car will emit about 6 Tons less CO2 during its lifecycle. A total of 42 EV cars will therefore emit 252 tonnes less CO2 into the atmosphere.
