GURGRAM. Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has established the “POWERGRID Centre of Excellence” at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. On 5th October 2026, Shri Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra, CMD of POWERGRID, formally handed over the facility to Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director of PEC, in the presence of senior POWERGRID officials including Directors (Personnel and Projects), the CVO, and other dignitaries.
The project stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed between POWERGRID and PEC on 6th June 2025, involving an investment of approximately ₹17.19 crore. It aims to foster innovation, research and development in the power sector, address contemporary technological challenges, and build a skilled workforce ready for the industry’s evolving needs.
Speaking at the event, the CMD reaffirmed POWERGRID’s commitment to advancing education, research, and innovation through impactful CSR efforts. The new Centre of Excellence is expected to strengthen PEC’s academic and research ecosystem, benefiting students, faculty, and researchers while supporting broader goals of technological advancement and sustainable development.
