MUMBAI. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, India’s leading defense shipyard, has expressed strong interest in becoming the anchor investor for an ambitious 29,253 crore rupee mega shipbuilding cluster at Dugarajapatnam in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh. The massive greenfield project spans nearly 2,000 acres and targets an annual capacity of 1.2 million gross tonnage, significantly boosting the country’s maritime sector and self-reliance goals. Under the proposed development framework, the government will contribute 5,289 crore rupees for land and marine infrastructure, while the anchor investor will fund 23,964 crore rupees for core shipbuilding facilities. A 50:50 joint venture named National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park Andhra Pradesh Limited has already been established between the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board and the Visakhapatnam Port Authority to oversee and execute the project.
