Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary of Defence Production, inaugurated the new structure assembly line for the Prachand Light Combat Helicopter at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s factory in Tumakuru, Karnataka. The facility also features an Automated Storage & Retrieval System and is designed to support the production of Light Utility Helicopters and future programs like the Indian Multi Role Helicopter. Senior officials from HAL and the Ministry of Defence were present during the inauguration, and the Secretary reviewed ongoing projects with HAL management.
The new state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance India’s helicopter manufacturing capabilities. Recently, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited HAL and experienced the Prachand helicopter’s performance firsthand, highlighting its significance for high-altitude operations and India’s combat readiness. The Defence Secretary’s visit and the facility’s inauguration mark a major step in strengthening indigenous defence production and future military projects.
