58th Annual Horticulture Show inaugurated at SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant

More than 960 entries in various categories of flowers, fruits, vegetables and plants

The 58th Annual Horticulture Show-2026 organised by the Horticulture Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was inaugurated by Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge (DIC) on 17th January 2026 at Jubilee Park. Present on the occasion were Mrs. Namrata Verma, President, Deepika Mahila Sanghati, Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), Mr. B K Giri, ED (MD-CMLO), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED (MM), Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines, OGoM-CMLO), Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects), Mr. Rajesh Dasgupta, CGM (F&A), Dr. Anup Mallick, Regional Officer, OSPCB, Government of Odisha, Mrs. Prabhati Misra, Dr. Pratijna Palai, Mrs. Vandana Singh, Mrs. Rita Rani, and Mrs. Nabanita Palchowdhury, all Vice Presidents of Deepika Mahila Sanghati, Mr. B K Jojo, CGM (Town Engineering & Horticulture), Dr. Avijit Biswas, GM (Horticulture) & In-Charge (ZDP) and other Senior Officials of RSP.

58th Annual Horticulture Show inaugurated at SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant

The DIC along with the other dignitaries went around the exhibition and took keen interest in the diverse range of flowers, fruits and plants on display. He applauded the efforts of the Horticulture Department for organizing the grand show for the 58th year which has created a niche for itself in the region, becoming a much-anticipated annual event that showcases the best in horticulture and attracts enthusiasts from far and wide. Emphasising the role of nature especially flowers on human mind, the DIC while addressing the gathering said “Flowers touch the human mind by softening emotions, refreshing thoughts and awakening a sense of peace and joy.”

The Show witnessed 961 entries in various categories like cut flowers, pot plants, fruits, vegetables, bonsai, Dinner Bowl Arrangement, Best Arranged Flower, Button Hole,  Bouquet, Garland (Other than Roses) and Models made with flowers and foliage. Large number of visitors thronged the Jubilee Park applauding the myriad varieties of flowers, vegetables and fruits on display such as variety of roses, Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Dianthus, Sweet Peas, Antirrhinum, Carnations, Calendula, Phlox, Pansy, Gerbera, Lupin, Marigold, Aster, Salvia, Gladioli, Candytuft and many more. Garden Layout competition is also included in the event.

A riveting cultural programme was presented by students and other cultural troupes on the occasion.  Mr. Sasanka S Pattanaik, Deputy Manager (PR) coordinated the programme.

The two day exhibition would conclude with an award giving ceremony on the evening of 18th January.
