ROURKELA: Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries H. D. Kumaraswamy inaugurated the state-of-the-art Caster 4 at the Steel Melting Shop-2 of SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) during his two-day visit on 18 November 2025. Accompanied by Mrs Anitha Kumaraswamy, SAIL CMD Amarendu Prakash and senior officials from the Ministry of Steel, the Minister reviewed the advanced casting operations, witnessed slab production and commended the RSP collective for commissioning the modern unit that is expected to significantly enhance productivity, quality and operational efficiency. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening India’s steel ecosystem, he praised RSP’s technological upgrades and its role in driving industrial growth in the region. The delegation also inspected major ongoing projects, including the Pellet Plant, Coke Oven Battery-7 and Hot Strip Mill-2, where they were briefed on progress, future capacity expansion and strategic plans aimed at boosting the plant’s competitiveness. Senior executives of RSP were present throughout the visit, underscoring the importance of the milestone for the company’s modernisation roadmap.
