WCL Launches TEJAS

NAGPUR. Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) to launch TEJAS—Transforming Emerging Juniors into Aspiring Stars—an innovative and pioneering human resources initiative aimed at shaping the future leaders of India’s energy sector. This groundbreaking program was inaugurated by Shri J. P. Dwivedi, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of WCL, in the presence of all functional directors, including Director (Finance) Shri Bikram Ghosh, Director Technical (Operations and P&P) Shri Anandji Prasad, Director (Human Resources) Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, and Chief Vigilance Officer Shri Ajay Madhukar Mhetre, along with members of the Steering Committee Shri Ashish Murthy and Shri S.R. Gabale.

TEJAS is more than just a training program; it represents a transformative movement that leverages the digital-first mindset and creative energy of 657 Gen-Z officers. The program is structured as an intensive 84-hour course spread over 12 days in 10 batches, meticulously designed to focus on capacity building, talent grooming, and succession planning. A key feature of TEJAS is its balanced learning approach, with 75% of sessions led by in-house faculty and the remaining 25% by external experts, ensuring a comprehensive and practical learning experience.

The curriculum covers every aspect of the coal sector, from rules and regulations to emerging challenges, aiming to develop holistic leaders who are equipped to meet the future demands of India’s energy industry. At the core of TEJAS is the visionary leadership of Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, Director (HR), WCL, whose mission is to foster a youth-driven culture that not only enhances organizational resilience but also redefines leadership standards within the coal industry.

TEJAS stands out as WCL’s bold declaration of actively shaping the future of leadership in India’s energy sector. Conducted by the HRD department under the supervision of GM (Min./HRD) Shri U. C. Gupta and his team, this initiative exemplifies WCL’s commitment to innovative, future-oriented human resource development in the public sector.
