Coal India Limited (CIL) Chairman Shri P.M. Prasad, addressing a workshop on *“Just Transformation in the Indian Coal Regions: Framing the Pathways”*, reaffirmed the company’s role in ensuring India’s energy security while prioritizing environmental protection and community welfare. He highlighted CIL’s CSR efforts in healthcare, education, water supply, sanitation, and skill development to uplift coalfield communities.
Director (Technical) Shri Achyut Ghatak underscored CIL’s environmental stewardship, noting the reclamation of 38,000 hectares of mined land into forests, parks, and community spaces. He emphasized skilling youth in coal regions for green jobs in solar energy, electric vehicles, and the circular economy, stressing a gradual, inclusive energy transition with coal’s continued relevance.
The workshop, organized by Coal India, featured a presentation by Professor Pradip Swarnakar of IIT Kanpur and was attended by officials from CIL subsidiaries.
