A Safety Awards and Recognition Function was held by the Projects Department of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) 0n 10th March 2025 at the Central Safety Training Hall to mark the ongoing National Safety Week 2025 observance. Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects) was the Chief Guest of the function. Mrs. Asha S. Kartha, CGM (Safety & Fire Services), Mr. Pinaki Choudhury, CGM (Projects), and Mr. Abakasa Behera, GM (Safety Engineering) were the Guests of Honour.
In their addresses, the dignitaries emphasized various critical aspects of safety in project areas and stressed the importance of imbibing a strong safety culture at the grassroots level. They highlighted the need for safe and efficient job execution, in alignment with RSP’s goal of “Zero Harm & Accident-Free Steel.”
In recognition of their outstanding adherence to safety standards, M/s Linde India Limited was awarded the “Best Project Site in Safety Excellence”, while M/s MECON Limited was declared the “Runners-up – Best Project Site in Safety Excellence”. Additionally, 24 Safety Officers from various contractors and subcontractors were felicitated with token gifts for achieving zero reportable accidents in 2024.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of a new initiative by the Projects Department, “Contractor Site Safety Audits (CSSA) & Contractor Safety Performance Evaluation System.” This initiative, to be undertaken by an Apex Committee every six months, aims to assess and enhance contractor safety compliance at Project sites with more than 100 contract labours. The initiative is designed to foster a competitive and robust safety culture across different project areas. A detailed presentation on the initiative was made by Shri Asish Ranjan Sahu, Sr. Manager (Tech.) to ED (Projects).
The event was anchored by Ms. Trishila Panigrahi, Manager (MM-Projects) and coordinated by Mr. Manoranjan Sharma, AGM (Projects-Admin), Mr. Subha Ranjan Nayak, Deputy Manager (Safety) & DSO-Projects and Mr. Kalyan Kanti Patel, Assistant Manager (Safety-Projects).
The function was attended by 60 participants, including senior officers from the Projects Department, Project Managers, and Safety Officers from main contractors such as M/s Linde India, M/s MECON Limited, M/s SMS India Pvt. Ltd., M/s B.G. Patel, M/s Oasis, M/s BEC, along with safety officers from various subcontractors including M/s Unistar Company, M/s V.K. Enterprises, M/s U.K. Mechanical Engineering, M/s Rosy Enterprises, M/s Spacetech, M/s Ray Construction, M/s HSCL, M/s Nishtechno, M/s P.K. Enterprise and others.
The function concluded with a vote of thanks to the dignitaries, reinforcing the commitment of RSP’s Projects Department to safety excellence and continuous improvement in workplace safety practices.
