The major sports facilities of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), have been given a boost with augmented amenities and necessary renovations aimed at promoting a vibrant sports culture, nurturing local talent and providing world-class infrastructure for athletes to train and compete effectively.
The revamped sports facilities included a modernized badminton court, a newly constructed table tennis hall, and a volleyball court. To enhance RSP’s sports infrastructure and provide world-class recreational facilities the badminton courts in the Indoor Stadium in Sector-20 were upgraded at a cost of Rs.26 lakhs. The repairs included the restoration of the damaged wooden flooring and the installation of three courts with new badminton poles, nets, and PVC mats. Additionally, the toilet facilities were renovated, the gallery area was refurbished with granite finishes, and anti-glare lights were installed to enhance visibility during games.
In the same sporting complex, a dedicated table tennis hall has been constructed at an investment of Rs. 50.13 lakhs. This new facility includes three TT courts with anti-glare lighting, separate toilets, and changing rooms for players. Previously, table tennis and badminton shared a common space, which often caused disruptions. In Biju Pattnaik Hockey Stadium, Sector-6, a brand-new volleyball court has been constructed. The court features elaborate seating arrangements for spectators and a rest shed for players, creating a professional-grade facility for hosting matches and training sessions.
The New Upgraded facilities were inaugurated on 30th December, 2024 by Mr. Atanu Bhwmick, the then Director In Charge, RSP in the presence of Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR), Mr. Alok Verma, ED In-Charge (Works), Mr. A K Behuria, ED (F&A), Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Operations), Mr. Anil Kumar, ED (MM), Mr. M P Singh, ED (Mines), Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects), CGMs, HoDs and other Senior officers of the Plant.
