“Let us inspire one another, stand united, and with our collective efforts, bring greater glory to our karmabhoomi, Rourkela Steel Plant,” said Mr. Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to the Plant collective during his last address at the Mass Contact Exercises. The DIC chaired the 873rd Mass Contact Exercise held at Gopabandhu Auditorium on 12th December, 2024. Notably, Mr. Bhowmick is set to superannuate at the end of this month. Mr. Alok Verma, ED (Works) In-Charge was also present on the dais. Several CGMs, and HODs along with about 500 employees of different departments of RSP including Mines attended the programme.
In his emotional address Mr. Bhowmick further said, “Rourkela Steel Plant has a proud legacy of overcoming challenges and achieving success. Together, we must evolve as a forward-looking workforce, embrace change, and work with renewed dedication to make RSP a model steel plant in every respect.” Exhorting the collective to have a shared vision and remain steadfast along the path, he emphasized the importance of realizing the dream of transforming the company into a world-class corporation. “We have to focus on making of quality steel at cheapest price, so that we can contribute in enhancing the per capita steel consumption of the country that will ultimately lead to a more progressive Nation” he added. The DIC also highlighted two critical areas requiring greater focus- that are achieving Zero Harm to ensure total safety within the steel plant and eliminating breakdowns. The assembly gave a standing ovation to the DIC at the conclusion of his emotive speech.
Earlier, the session commenced with the rendition of the National Anthem. This was followed by showcasing a film made by Public Relations Department comprising motivational video as well as the performance of RSP in current fiscal in various endeavours, targets, achievements and new facilities in the township. In another film the compliance status of the suggestions given in the last session was shown. Later, during the interaction session, employees gave suggestions pertaining to production, productivity, maintenance and safety issues. The DIC presented the ‘Best Suggester’ award to Mr. Manoj Kumar Das of Coke Ovens Department for giving a productive proposal during the interaction.
The DIC also presented the Cost Champions of the 2nd Quarter of FY 2024-25 to Blast Furnaces Department. It is noteworthy that RSP has introduced this unique scheme to recognize and encourage exceptional cost management achievements within the plant and foster a culture of efficiency, cost-consciousness, and continuous improvement among different departments.
The members of the Saksham Quality Circle team of New Plate Mill were also felicitated by Mr. Bhowmick for winning Gold in the 49th International Convention on Quality Control Circles 2024 held at Colombo, Sri Lanka
The session ended with everyone joining to take a pledge to make RSP the best in every respect. Ms. Satyabati Behera, OA, L&D coordinated the programme.
