Indian shuttlers to begin their Korea Open campaign today

In Badminton, PV Sindhu is among the 14 Indian shuttlers who will begin their campaigns at the Korea Open Superseries tournament in Seoul today. In the absence of Saina Nehwal, Sindhu is the only Indian in the Women's Singles and is seeded 5th. She will play her opening round match against Ngan Yi Cheung of Hong Kong. 

The Rio Olympics and World Championships Silver medalist, who will be eying her second career Superseries title, has never lost against Cheung in the four matches they have played, so far.

B. Sai Praneeth, HS Prannoy, Parupalli Kashyap, Sourabh Verma and Sameer Verma will be seen in action in the Men's Singles first round. Kidambi Srikanth is not taking part in the tournament. Indian shuttlers will also figure in the Men's, Women's and Mixed Doubles categories.

US Open: Martina Hingis, Chan Yung-Jan win women's doubles title

Switzerland's Martina Hingis and Taiwan's Chan Yung-Jan won the US Open women's doubles title tonight, when they rolled past the Czech partnership of Lucie Hradecka and Katerina Siniakova 6-3 6-2. 

It was the first grand slam title for Chan but the second in as many days for Hingis, who won the mixed doubles with Britain's Jamie Murray on Saturday. The victory took Hingis's career grand-slam tally to 25, including five singles titles, 13 doubles and seven mixed doubles. Hingis and Chan stormed through the draw without dropping a set and in the final did not face a breakpoint as they simply overwhelmed Hradecka and Siniakova.

Roger Federer makes shocking quarter-final exit from US Open

In Tennis, world number three Roger Federer has made a shocking quarter-final exit from the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season, in New York. The Swiss, who had won the Wimbledon and Australian Open earlier this year, was stunned by 24th seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina in four sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-7, 4-6. 

In the semi-finals, Del Potro will face world number one Rafael Nadal who beat Russian teenager Andrey Rublev in straight sets in the other quarterfinal. The other Men's Singles semi-final will be played between Kevin Anderson and Pablo Busta.

Venus Williams enters women's singles semifinals of US Open

In the US Open Tennis, American Venus Williams have entered the semi-finals of women's singles event in New York this morning. 

Two time winner Venus defeated 13th seeded Czech player Petra Kvitova in the quarter finals, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6. Venus has set up semi-final clash against another American Sloane Stephens. The unseeded Solane entered the last-4 stage defeating 16th seed Latvian Anastasija Sevastova 6-3, 3-6, 7-6, last night.

US Open Women's Doubles: Sania Mirza-Shuai Peng reach quarter-finals

In the US Open Tennis, in the Women's Doubles event, 4th seeded Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Shuai Peng have reached the quarter-finals. The Indo-Chinese duo defeated the unseeded pair of Romanian Sorana Cîrstea and Spanish Sara Tormo 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 in a tie breaker game in the pre quarter finals, this morning.

Overnight, Maria Sharapova, who is making a comeback in a Grand Slam after serving a dope ban, was ousted in the 4th round by Anastasija Sevastova. In the Women Singles, 16th seed Latvian Anastasija defeated Sharapova, former number one, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals. Earlier, Sharapova had played superbly to upset world number two Simona Halep on the first day of the tournament. On other hand, two time US Open winner Venus Williams has reached the quarter finals.
