Athletics Championships: Indian Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra to begin his campaign today

In the World Athletics Championships, Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra will begin his campaign in London today. The 19-year-old world junior record holder has an outside chance of clinching a medal and he will feature in the qualification round. Davinder Singh Kang is the second Indian in the fray.

In the Men's 200 meters race, Botswana's Isaac Makwala and South Africa's newly crowned 400 metres world champion Wayde van Niekerk qualified for the Final.

India's Ravindra Jadeja today edged out Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan to claim the top-rank among all-rounders apart from maintaining top position in the bowlers' chart in the latest ICC test match rankings.Jadeja currently has 438 points among the all-rounders while Shakib has 431 points. Cheteshwar Pujara gained a place to be third among batsmen while Virat Kohli maintained his fifth position.

World Athletics Championships begins in London today; 25 Indian players to participate

The World Athletics Championships will begin in London today. 25 Indian athletes are taking part in the ten days grand event. No Indian will be in action today. 

Experts are hoping a medal for India from world junior record holder javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. Everything depends on this 19-year-old Haryana athlete's performance on whether India manages to put an end to the medal drought since 2003.

Veer Dev Gulia wins Bronze in Junior World Wrestling

India began their campaign in the Junior World Wrestling Championships on a positive note last night, as Veer Dev Gulia bagged a bronze medal on the opening day of the competition at Tampere in Finland.

In the Men's 74 kg freestyle category, Gulia finished third after beating Yamasaki Yajuro of Japan, 8-5 in the bronze medal play-off bout.

Gulia had made it to the play-off despite losing in the quarterfinals as his last-eight stage opponent Isa Shapiev of Uzbekistan reached the gold medal round.

However, another Indian Ravinder, who also made it to the bronze medal round in 60 kg freestyle section, lost out on a third-place finish. He lost to Japan's Hiromu Sakaki, 6-9.

2028 Summer Olympics In Los Angeles

Summer Olympics: Los Angeles agrees to host 2028 Games; Paris gets 2024

Los Angeles formally announced its bid for the 2028 Summer Olympics today after agreeing on a deal that paves the way for Paris to host in 2024. 

The Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic bid committee in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced it yesterday. The LA bid committee said in a statement that Los Angeles will host the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games 2028. 

Los Angeles had been in a race with Paris to host the 2024 Games, with the winner to be named by the IOC on September 13 in Lima.
